Writing Hot
Sunday Writing Journal — June 14th, 2026
Writing in hot weather! Pervert!
It’s been crazy hot up here in Toronto this past week. We finally got a nice reprieve over the weekend, but damn. Sunscreen is a real need. Wear it.
See how happy she is with sunscreen?

Writing Update
I’ve been procrastinating. (Feel free to boo me on that. Throw a tomato or two if you’d like.)
I edited the entirety of my second book. It took weeks. I deleted whole chapters and plot lines.
All I have to do is check the grammar. I’m literally just doing the line edits and putting them into Atticus. It’s so boring. And I have to push myself to even open it. I have to get it done. But I don’t wanna. (Boo more!)
I’ll get there. I’m going into reward-based systems now. Want dinner? Do 3 chapters. Want breakfast? Do 3 chapters. Slowly but surely, we’ll get there.
Finishing up the final pass also means all the rest of the things I don’t want to do. A cover, blurbs, marketing things. First things first, get the book done.
I just want to write!
And I have been. For the first time, I started with the title of the book. I even mocked up a cover. I don’t want to reveal it just yet, but it’s a thriller with some fun twists. Am I using it to avoid editing? Stop asking questions.
It’s fun. I don’t write thrillers much so it’s an interesting pace.
Life Update
I ran my first official 5K!
I was aiming for under 30 minutes and hit a new PB of 25:13. (I reset all of my PBs when I turned 30.) Thank you to the high school girls who were faster than me for pushing me to run under 26. My male ego made run faster than I should have.
To be honest, I was dead for a few days after. My legs were jelly. But it was a lot of fun! It was the Run for Women, benefitting women’s mental health in Canada. They have it across 20 or so cities every May and it’s a blast. There’s music and cookies and a lot of good vibes.
I ended up going to Ottawa to do the run. (And get out of the city.) It’s a fun city.
My partner and I also went to see Lorde at a festival here in Toronto. She was incredible. Not only the music and performance, but the stage! (Maybe I am a nerd.) Her stage setup was creative and dazzling. Everyone go see Lorde!
Not much else to report on the life part of life. More patios! More sun!
Oh! Reading. I finally read Mickey7. I still haven’t seen the movie (named Mickey17 — they added 10!), but the book was fantastic. It’s funny and quite thoughtful.

Thanks for reading. I definitely didn’t forget the last two Sundays. I forgot one. The other I was driving back from Ottawa and then forgot about it on Monday.
I hope next week to be writing a diatribe on how good it feels to be done editing.
Cheers.
