Asian immigrants are subjected to extensive and difficult interrogation that focuses on individual families and questions family backgrounds. This is one of the ways Chinese people are treated by prejudiced white people. An interesting observation is that white men will dress up as Chinese men and then compare themselves to a real Chinese person in a way that mocks the physical attributes of being Asian. Chinese women are subjected to stereotypes when working as exotic beauty performers and actresses. This devalues the identity of being Asian because Asian people portray the character of being Asian based on western conception. It’s ironic that a Chinese person is too Asian from America’s perception but too American from mainland China’s perception. Part of the struggle the next generation of Asian people faces growing up in a multiethnic community is the question of “Where is home?”

This is the exhibit I was inspired to write my assignment. One the left is an Chinese actress and on the right is a Chinese character played by an white Man.
