contempt for humanity

👹 we fear being called monsters, but i learnt tht the deeper danger is believing sin stops short of the heart. total depravity (moral corruption; wickedness) says it has already… (ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ.ﾟ

… behavior/ obvious wrongdoing / motives / desires / reasoning… and even our best intentions.

in my theology subject of man&sin, total depravity teaches that sin has corrupted every part of the human person, mind, will, emotions, conscience, and relationships. THERE IS NOOOOOO NONE NADA neutral zone inside us that remains untouched. ߹𖥦߹

“There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.” Romans 3:10–11 (っ╥﹏╥ς)

ಥ﹏ಥ its a theological statement, not an absolute sociological fact. it emphasizes that no human can attain righteousness or find God on their own merit because all have turned away from Him.

not saying ppl nvr do good things. ༼;´༎ຶ ۝ ༎ຶ༽ scripture acknowledges kindness, compassion &civic virtue but it insists that no part of the human person is morally pure before God. (ó﹏ò｡)

even our goodness is compromised.

If sin were merely about bad actions, then better actions would solve the problem. But NO ˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ Scripture refuses that simplicity.

Jesus confronts this directly:

“This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.”

• Matthew 15:8 (｡ᵕ ◞ _◟)

The issue is not just what we do, but why we do it.

Jeremiah goes further:

“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” — Jeremiah 17:9 ദ്ദി ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ )

the heart ( ˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )づ♡, the control center of desire and intention, is not merely wounded. It is unreliable. (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ) means even sincere intentions can be self-deceived. ｡•́︿•̀｡

total depravity exposes the uncomfortable truth that we are capable of sinning even while believing we are doing good. (;◞‸◟)

Sin = inability

i used to misunderstand tht total depravity means humans are constantly committing the worst sins imaginable. but no. its more serious. ㅜㅜ

“The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.” Romans 8:7

this introduces a category we resist, inability.

total depravity means that APART FROM GRACEEEEE ૮ ⸝⸝o̴̶̷᷄ ·̭ o̴̶̷̥᷅⸝⸝ ྀིა, humans cannot restore themselves to God. could improve behavior, refine ethics / adopt religious practices BUT they cannot cross the gap sin has created.

“By works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight.” — Romans 3:20 ૮꒰◞ ˕ ◟ ྀི꒱ა

The Law reveals sin. It does not heal it.

y this doctrine feels offensive

total depravity offends modern sensibilities because it contradicts two cherished assumptions:

• that humans are fundamentally good
• that moral effort is enough

📜🧎​scripture dismantles both assumptions not to humiliate humanity, but to remove false hope. ( •̯́ . •̯̀)

if humans were merely weak, they’d need encouragement. If humans were merely ignorant, they’d need education. But if humans are spiritually dead, they need resurrection. ˏˋ ✞ ˎˊ​

“You were dead in your trespasses and sins.” — Ephesians 2:1

dead people do not cooperate with healing. (⸝⸝๑﹏๑⸝⸝) they must be made alive.

total depravity is not despair

its not the darkest doctrine in Christianity. It is the one that makes grace intelligible/comprehensible/understandable.

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead… made us alive together with Christ.” — Ephesians 2:4–5

total depravity (moral corruption; wickedness) clears the stage of illusions so grace can take center place.

If salvation depended on human potential, the weak would despair. If salvation depended on moral effort, the proud would boast. If salvation depended on knowledge, the simple would be excluded.

But if salvation depends on God’s initiative, then no one is beyond hope.

Total depravity does not say humans have no value. the image of God remains. it only says humans cannot save themselves even with their best intentions.

strips away self-justification and leaves us with one option: dependence. (⸝⸝๑﹏๑⸝⸝) &tht dependence is not humiliation. it is honesty. っ- ‸ - ς

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” — James 4:6

total depravity humbles without destroying dignity. it explains why the world 🌏 is broken, why moral reform keeps failing 😩 , and why redemption must come from outside us. 𓂃 ོ✝︎𓂃

Total depravity is not the end of the story. It is the end of pretending we can write the story ourselves.

clears the ground for grace, exposes the depth of the problem, &magnifies the cost and beauty of redemption. · . ⊹ ࣪ ˖ . ♱ . ₊ ⊹ . ·

If sin were shallow, the cross would be excessive. If sin were partial, grace would be optional. But because sin is total, grace must be absolute.
