The Autopsy of a Betrayal

The devastating weight of becoming the villain: On careless mouths, murdered hopes, and the grief of ruining the ones who deserved our absolute best.
There is a specific kind of mourning reserved for the moment you realize you are the poison.
I know what it means to be hurt. I know the intimate, lingering ache of being let down by the world. Yet, somehow, I became the exact disease I spent my whole life trying to heal from.
I didn’t just break a bond. I killed their soul with my mouth. I killed their hope with my betrayal.
When they looked at me and said they were disappointed, I didn’t just lose them. I felt like I lost myself. I lost my life. I lost the love of my life. I lost every ounce of their trust.
I lost everything.
And the heaviest, most suffocating truth is that it is all because of me.
All the good memories we built, the sanctuary we so carefully crafted, now just echoes. Like dead leaves scattering in the wind beautiful once, but impossible to catch again.
How do you even begin to comprehend it?
How does someone who was the most important anchor in my life turn into someone so profoundly broken by me?
Someone who now questions their own worth, all because of the absolute trash of my own behavior.
They offered me a safe harbor, and in return, I handed them the cruelest thing I could manufacture. A careless word. A knife slipped quietly into the back of someone who only ever tried to keep me warm.
When you are the victim, you can at least find solace in your innocence. But when you are the perpetrator? There is no solace. There is only the mirror.
I am the architect of this ruin. I killed myself with my own actions. I killed my life, and I dragged theirs down with it.
I lost my best part. Again. And again.
Not because the world was cruel to us. Not because of them. But because of me.
And it absolutely sucks.
The worst part of this tragedy isn’t the silence that follows. It is knowing that I survived the people who broke me, only to become the person who broke them.
I carry the ghost of their trust now. A permanent, agonizing reminder that some wreckage cannot be undone.
And some apologies will never be enough to resurrect what my own hands put in the grave.
