PBBM Promises Full Support for Women’s Empowerment on International Women’s Day
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to women’s empowerment on International Women’s Day, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding their rights and ensuring their continued advancement in society. His statement, released on March 8, paid tribute to the resilience, strength, and significant contributions of Filipino women throughout the nation’s history.

Marcos Jr. acknowledged the vital role of women in shaping the country’s development, highlighting their presence in various fields, including governance, education, healthcare, and business. He underscored the need for policies and programs that promote gender equality, protect women from discrimination, and provide opportunities for economic and social growth.
While the president’s message aligns with the global call for gender inclusivity, its impact will largely depend on the implementation of concrete policies that address long-standing issues such as gender-based violence, workplace inequality, and access to education. The Philippines has made strides in gender equality, ranking among the top Asian countries in terms of closing the gender gap, but challenges remain, particularly in rural areas where women continue to face systemic barriers.
The administration’s pledge of full support for women’s empowerment raises expectations regarding legislative and executive measures that will reinforce gender-responsive governance. Advocates hope that this commitment will translate into stronger enforcement of existing laws, such as the Magna Carta of Women and the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act, while also introducing new initiatives to support marginalized women.
As the country celebrates International Women’s Day, stakeholders, including government agencies, private organizations, and civil society groups, continue to push for sustained efforts in creating a more inclusive society. The real test of commitment lies in the government’s ability to turn promises into tangible action, ensuring that women’s rights are not just protected but actively advanced.
