Your laptop has two types of RAM and most people don’t realize they’re fundamentally different things.
SRAM uses 6 transistors per bit. It holds its state as long as power is on. Fast, stable, expensive, small capacity.
DRAM uses 1 transistor and 1 capacitor. The capacitor leaks charge, so the chip has to refresh every single bit every few milliseconds. Slower but you can pack gigabytes of it on one die at low cost.
L1 cache near your CPU core is SRAM. Your 16GB main memory is DRAM. Same name, completely different technology.
