Vertical drama generated more institutional deal-making in the week of June 15–21 than in any comparable seven-day window this year.
At APOS in Bali, ReelShort announced a Korean co-production with Showbox, a Philippine telco partnership with Globe, and declared North America saturated — all within 72 hours. COL Group launched a 16-title AI franchise with Neymar timed to the World Cup; Viu disclosed that 20 percent of its long-form user base already watches microdramas; and P&G co-produced the format’s first retail-media-funded series with Albertsons. The DGA finalized AI protections establishing director control over generated footage, and the DOJ cleared the $111 billion Paramount–WBD merger.
What none of them have in common is a vertical drama business — and that may be the most important thing to understand about where the format is heading.
