Why Writing Feels So Hard for Some People?
To be honest, writing is strange.

Writing always feels easier in your head. In your head, everything makes sense. The sentences are clear, the ideas connect perfectly, and you feel like you could write something really good today. But the moment you actually sit down to write, something changes. The thoughts are still there, but they don’t line up the same way anymore. They feel scattered. Like they were organized in your mind, but decided to fall apart the second you start to actually write. (Is it the same for you guys?👀)
I get it, it doesn’t seem easy anymore. Maybe it is in your mind, but you just can’t seem to form a perfect sentence. A big part of the problem is that we don’t think in proper sentences. We think in fragments, in quick ideas that don’t always connect in a straight line. But it's fine! you don’t have to worry about being wrong in here, everyone makes mistakes even I do till now. There’s nothing to be ashamed of this. Sometimes we also get distracted by the smallest things. You sit down to write and suddenly notice your space, your phone, your surroundings, even things you didn’t care about a second ago. (like I am totally not dreaming of sleeping at the moment 🛏ᴵ ˢʷᵉᵃʳ )
Anyways lets focus back on why we get distracted? It always begins the same way. You sit down, open a blank page or a screen, and think: this is it, I’m going to write something amazing today. You even feel a little productive. And then suddenly you think of random things
“Before we start… is the chair comfortable?”
“Should I get water first?”
“Oh wait, remember that random video you saw yesterday?”
And somehow you’re already doing other things before writing even starts, but when you DO start writing, it’s not really writing. It’s more like: Type a sentence → delete it → type it again → hate it → rethink your entire sentence…. the worst part is… you know what you want to say, it’s in your head. Writing demands order. It asks you to slow everything down and turn that chaos into something readable.
And that translation is not easy. (maybe not for some), but there’s also the fear — quiet, but always present — of not being good enough.
“What if this sounds childish?”
“What if people think this is basic?
“What if I’m just bad at writing and don’t know it yet?”
And just like that, writing becomes less about expression and more about judgment, nothing kills creativity faster than feeling like you’re being graded while you’re still forming the sentence. Sometimes we do have ideas. Good ones, even. But they exist like scattered puzzle pieces with no picture on the box. You know there’s something there, but you don’t know where to start, where to go next, or how to end. So you sit there thinking instead of writing, waiting for the “perfect opening line” to magically appear.
It doesn’t.
And honestly, perfection is probably one of the biggest traps in writing. Because writing doesn’t start perfect — it becomes something through movement. But we often treat the first draft like it has to already be final.(even I do that sometimes)
When I started writing I overlooked the obvious reason….. “writing is a skill, not just a form of expression”. We forget that, We assume that if we can think, we should automatically be able to write. But writing is more like training a muscle. The more you do it, the easier it becomes to turn thoughts into words. And if you don’t do it often, even simple ideas can feel weirdly heavy when you try to express them. It was the same for me when I first started writing down in book, and I judged myself a lot because of it. (but don't think of it that way!😐 I’m serious)
It’s not that some people “can’t write.” It’s just that writing is one of those things that exposes the gap between thinking something and actually shaping it. Maybe that’s also why writing matters. Why?, It’s because you start to understand yourself and your thoughts even better, but slowly. This takes time, structure, and a kind of patience we don’t always have in the moment. (but hey, if I can do it you can too!😊 You don’t have to start big, even 3–4 sentences are enough I’m proud of you)
I sometimes like mixing formal and informal writing together. It might not be everyone’s style, but it’s a fun way for me to express myself. 😅😊
