The Yankees begin a series against the resurgent Chicago White Sox on Tuesday evening

After winning two out of three games in Toronto against their division rival Blue Jays, the Yankees had an off day on Monday before beginning a three-game series against the surprisingly competitive Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night back in the Bronx.

The Yankees were able to win two out of three games without having Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Max Fried and Trent Grisham, who are all injured. Jasson Dominguez was called up in the morning of the second game of the series on Saturday to replace the injured Grisham, who has a right hamstring strain and will likely be back after the minimum 10 days. The Yankees waited until Saturday to bring up Dominguez instead of Friday night so that they could make sure it was the right decision for Grisham to go on the injured list. Dominguez got to the stadium only one hour before Saturday’s game began and gave the Yankees a jolt with his 357 foot homer in the fourth inning to tie the game at one.

Dominguez pulled his homer that had a 97.1 mph exit velocity over the high wall in right. It went over an open area with fans standing next to a few long tables. Dominguez has gone 2–8 with a double, a homer and a walk in his two games since being back up with the Yankees. Dominguez will get everyday at bats with Grisham on the injured list

The Yankees edged the Blue Jays 3–1 in the middle game of the series. The Blue Jays 29-year-old rookie from Japan Kazuma Okamoto had a 352 foot homer in the third inning off of Cam Schlittler to give the Blue Jays a 1–0 lead. Okamoto pulled his homer near the foul pole that went just over the high wall in left field. It was a high pitch that he was able to get on top of. He hit an even longer 423 foot homer the previous day in Toronto’s 8–5 win. Okamoto went 4–11 with a double, two homers and four RBI in the three game series after going 2–14 in his previous three games. He had five homers in a five game span from May 1 to May 5.

Grisham had .370 average with a .970 OPS in his last 20 games before going on the injured list. Grisham was feeling a little better when he woke up on Saturday morning but the Yankees did want to risk him aggravating his hamstring strain so he was put on the injured list. The Yankees think it could be just 10 days. This Yankees will miss Grisham’s offense but if Dominguez can continue hitting getting extra base hits like he has in these two games he will help negate the loss of Grisham.

Schlittler had allowed two earned runs in each of his previous three starts against the Blue Jays, which includes one start in the playoffs in 2025. Schlittler allowed just one run in seven innings in this game, which is a positive, but he was not as sharp as normal since he allowed four walks and one homer. He has not allowed a homer in 10 of his 15 starts this season. He allowed four walks in this start after allowing just five walks in his previous six starts. Schlittler leads the American League in all of these categories: ERA (1.82), WAR (3.8), innings pitched (89), ERA+ (230), FIP (2.32). He has 96 strikeouts in his 89 innings.

Chisholm has had 15 challenges and has been correct just four times. He was very wrong with his challenge in the fourth inning. Ben Rice had a single to right with two outs in the eighth to advance pinch runner Anthony Volpe to third. Charles McAdoo, who is a distant cousin of NBA Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo, made a great diving play at first base to take an RBI away from Dominguez. In the ninth inning, Paul Goldschmidt had a clutch homer to right to give the Yankees a go ahead 3–1 lead, which ended up being the game winning homer.

In the series clincher game on Sunday, which the Yankees won 8–3, the Yankees scored five runs in the ninth inning to break open a 3–3 tie. In the ninth inning, Rice hit a go ahead two-run homer to right to give the Yankees a 5–3 lead and Jose Caballero hit a 420 foot three run homer to score Jazz Chisholm and Dominguez to give the Yankees an 8–3 lead.

Goldschmidt went 3–5 in the series finale and 5–13 in the series with a homer and three RBI. Goldschmidt has at least one hit in 10 of his 11 games in June. In his 11 games this month, he is a very productive 17–45 (.378) with three homers, 12 RBI and a 1.018 OPS. Yankees backup catcher Ali Sanchez, who is from Venezuela, went 2–3 in the series finale. He was 0–7 in his first five games with the Yankees after being called up from Triple-A when Austin Wells went on the injured list. Volpe went 2–4 with two RBI in the series finale after going 2–24 with one RBI in his previous seven games played.

The White Sox, who have been better than anyone expected them to be so far this season, are tied for first place in the AL Central with the Cleveland Guardians. The White Sox are 38–32 and have a +12 run differential and the Guardians are 39–33 and have a -3 run differential. The White Sox have drastic home road splits as they are 24–12 at Rate Field on the South Side of Chicago and they are 14–20 on the road. The ballpark was known as Guaranteed Rate Field from 2017–2024, it was U.S. Cellular Field from 2003–2016 and it was Comiskey Park II from 1991–2003. This series will be on the road at Yankee Stadium.

The White Sox were just 11–17 on April 26 after losing two extra inning games in a row. Since April 26, the White Sox have gone an impressive 27–15. Since losing three out of four games from May 23–26, the White Sox have gone 11–5. The White Sox have gone 4–1 in their last five games with two series wins over the Braves and Dodgers, who are both in first place in their respective divisions. Those series wins help to prove that the White Sox are a legit team this year.

They won two consecutive one run games over the Braves (one was an extra inning game) before the series finale was postponed and then they continued the homestand with winning two out of three against the back-to-back World Series champion Dodgers. The Braves are 46–25 and have a 7.5 game lead over the Phillies for first place in the NL East. The Dodgers are 46–27 and have an eight game lead over the Padres for first place in the NL West.

The White Sox have gone 5–4 in extra inning games this season and they are 14–6 in the 20 one run games that they have played this season. Last season, the White Sox were 3–7 in extra inning games and they were 12–36 in their 48 one run games.

The White Sox have made a massive improvement so far this season from the last few seasons. Last season, they went 60–102 and finished 28 games out of first place in the AL Central. In 2024, they went 41–121, they finished 51.5 games out of first place in the AL Central, they had a -306 run differential and they set the modern era Major League record for losses in a season going back to the year 1900. In 2023, they streak of futility began when they went 61–101 and finished 26 games out of first place in the AL Central. They had a -200 run differential in 2023. The White Sox are on track to having their first above .500 since since 2021, which was when they won the AL Central with a 93–69 record.

Last season, the White Sox had just three everyday players with an OPS+ of above 100 and they had just one starting pitcher with an ERA+ of above 110 (100 is league average). This season, they have six everyday players with an OPS+ of 110 or better. Munetaka Murakami, who is a 26-year-old rookie first baseman from Japan, has been on the injured list since May 29 with a hamstring injury. He has the best OPS+ on the team (158) while also having 20 homers (third most in the AL), 41 RBI (15th most in the AL), .378 OBP (11th best in the AL) and a .938 OPS (sixth best in the AL). He had three homers in his last five games before going on the injured list and he had a homer in five consecutive games from April 17 to April 22.

Miguel Vargas’s 138 OPS+ is the second best on the White Sox. He also has 16 homers, 11 doubles, 44 RBI, 10 steals and a very good .370 OBP in 69 games in his fifth MLB season and his third with the White Sox. Tristan Peters, who is a 26-year-old centerfielder from Canada, has a 123 OPS+ with 15 doubles, three homers, 21 RBI, a .294 average and a .352 OBP. Colson Montgomery, who is a 24-year-old shortstop in his second MLB season after being a first round pick in 2021 by the White Sox, has a 120 OPS+ with 17 homers (tied for eighth in the AL), 13 doubles, 40 RBI and a .801 OPS in 67 games. Sam Antonacci, who is a 23-year-old fifth round draft pick by the White Sox back in 2024, has a 113 OPS+ with eight doubles, two triples, nine steals and a .379 OBP in 52 games. Chase Meidroth has 13 doubles, six homers, a team leading 71 hits and a .351 OBP in 68 games. The White Sox have done well developing talent & that has helped them improve in 2026.

Davis Martin has been the White Sox best pitcher as he has a 2.41 ERA in 13 starts with a league leading nine wins, 79 strikeouts in 78.1 innings, just three homers allowed in 78.1 innings, a league best 0.3 homers per nine innings, a 179 ERA+ and a 1.098 WHIP. He has the second best ERA in the American League behind Schlittler’s 1.82, who has been the best starting pitcher in the AL for the Yankees.

Martin has allowed one run or less in nine of his 13 starts this season. He had a 2.00 ERA through his first 11 starts this season but then he allowed six earned runs in 4.2 innings in Minnesota against the Twins, which meant his ERA went up to 2.61. His ERA went down to the 2.41 it is now after he threw six scoreless innings with zero walks in his previous start last week in Chicago against the Braves. Martin, who is 29 years old and was drafted by the White Sox in the 14th round in 2018, has a 1.01 ERA in his six starts at home this season but a much worse 3.59 ERA in his seven starts on the road. The only three starts this season where he has allowed more than two runs have all come on the road.

Martin has made a massive improvement compared to last season. In 2025, he had a 4.10 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) with a 102 ERA+ and a 4.64 FIP. This season, he has a 2.39 FIP and a 1.098 WHIP. Martin allowed 1.3 homers per nine innings last season but has allowed just 0.3 homers per nine innings this season in his breakout 2026 campaign.

Last season, the White Sox were 14th out of 15 teams in runs scored, they were 13th out of 15 teams in OBP, they were 14th out of 15 teams in OPS (.675), they were 14th out of 15 teams in homers and they were 14th out of the 15 teams in total bases. This season, they have scored the fifth most runs in the American League, they have the fourth best OBP (the Yankees have the third best OBP), they have the third best OPS in the league (the Yankees .763 OPS is the best in the league), they have hit the third most homers (the Yankees have hit the most homers) and the White Sox are seventh out of 15 teams in total bases.

In terms of pitching, the White Sox have the third best opponent batting average in the American League (the Yankees have the best OBA), the White Sox have the ninth best ERA (the Yankees’ 3.32 ERA is the best in the AL), the White Sox have allowed the sixth fewest homers in the AL (the Yankees have allowed the fewest) and the White Sox have the fourth most saves.
