STORY 1: US-Korea Tariff Landscape: 15% Rate Confirmed, Section 301 Probe Launched
The US has retroactively confirmed a 15% tariff on Korean autos, timber, and lumber under the US-Korea Strategic Trade and Investment Deal, effective from November 2025.
This offers near-term certainty for Korean exporters in those sectors.
However, Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum stay at a steep 50%, unaffected by the deal, and still burden Korean producers with major US exposure.
Advisory note: Korean companies reliant on US market access, especially in tech and digital services, should monitor the Section 301 investigation. The 15% rate is a minimum, not a maximum.
STORY 2: BCW Expands Investor Advisory Role: American Samoa Critical Minerals
Bridging Culture Worldwide LLC. (BCW) announced on March 29, 2026, that it will provide investor advisory support to the American Samoa Economic Development Council (ASEDC), leveraging BCW’s Korea and broader Asia investor and strategic partner networks for one of the most strategically significant US-territory critical minerals opportunities.
American Samoa’s deep-sea polymetallic nodule deposits contain an estimated 10 billion tons of valuable minerals: nickel, cobalt, manganese, and copper. This positions the territory as a strategically located, non-China US offshore supply source.
The engagement builds on a 2024 MOU between ASEDC and Critical Minerals partners and directly aligns with the Trump administration’s priorities on mineral supply chain security, domestic and allied sourcing, and reducing dependence on Chinese supply chains.
“The mission stays the same, helping American Samoa realize its extraordinary potential as a strategic source of critical minerals. Bringing this work under BCW’s investor advisory umbrella gives ASEDC access to the Korea and broader Asia investor and strategic partner networks we’ve been building for years.” Don Southerton, BCW Founder & CEO
ASEDC Executive Director John Wasko noted, “Don has been a committed partner. Having BCW’s full investor network behind this effort is a meaningful step forward.”
