Nvidia CEO Says “Automate Every Task” While Hiring 10,000 People. Can Someone Explain This Business Model?

Jensen Huang demands staff use AI for everything, promises they’ll still have jobs, then hires thousands more employees.
Meanwhile, his customers buy his chips specifically to eliminate workers. How does this math work?
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called it “insane” for managers to limit AI usage. At an internal all-hands meeting Thursday, he told employees:
“I want every task that is possible to be automated with artificial intelligence to be automated with artificial intelligence. I promise you, you will have work to do.”
Then he revealed Nvidia is 10,000 employees short and hiring aggressively. The company grew from 29,600 employees in fiscal 2024 to 36,000 in fiscal 2025.
Automate every task. Hire 10,000 more people. Both happening simultaneously at the same company.
The math doesn’t make sense until you understand what Nvidia actually sells.
The Contradiction Everyone’s Missing
Nvidia makes the chips that power AI. Every company that automates work buys Nvidia GPUs.
Q3 revenue: $57 billion, up 62% year-over-year. Net income: $31.9 billion. Q4 projected: $65 billion.
They have $500 billion in confirmed orders through 2026 for their Blackwell and Rubin chip platforms.
Here’s what’s happening: Nvidia sells the tools that eliminate jobs elsewhere while keeping its own headcount high.
Companies buy Nvidia chips to automate work. That generates revenue. Nvidia uses that revenue to hire more people.
Those people build better chips.
More companies automate. Nvidia sells more chips. Cycle repeats.
The automation happens at Nvidia’s customers. The hiring happens at Nvidia.
What Huang Actually Said
Some Nvidia managers were telling employees to reduce AI tool usage. Huang shut that down hard.
He revealed Nvidia’s software engineers use Cursor, an AI coding assistant. He wants everyone using AI for every possible task.
His instruction when AI tools don’t work perfectly: “Use it until it does” work and to “jump in and help make it better, because we have the power to do so”
Nvidia employees are automating their own tasks. Writing code faster. Completing projects quicker. Working more efficiently.
But they’re not being fired. They’re being joined by thousands of new hires.
How This Model Actually Works
When Nvidia employees use AI coding assistants, they code faster. That doesn’t eliminate programmers. Each programmer tackles more projects.
More projects completed means more products launched. More revenue generated. More hiring to handle growth.
Productivity gains fund expansion, not replacement.
When Nvidia’s customers use AI, they’re specifically trying to eliminate positions. A bank automates junior analyst work and fires junior analysts. A law firm automates document review and fires associates.
Nvidia uses AI for productivity while maintaining headcount. Their customers use AI to replace headcount.
That’s the business model. Sell automation to companies cutting staff. Use the revenue to hire staff internally.
The Numbers Behind The Growth
Nvidia hired “several thousand” people in Q3 alone. Opening new offices in Taipei and Shanghai. Constructing two additional U.S. sites.
Huang joked about parking spaces coming under strain from rapid hiring.
Physical expansion signals confidence that demand is sustainable. You don’t invest in real estate if you think the boom is ending.
The Vision: 50,000 Employees + 100 Million AI Assistants
In an October podcast, Huang said he hopes Nvidia becomes “a 50,000-employee company with 100 million AI assistants in every single group.”
Each human employee gets hundreds or thousands of AI assistants. Productivity multiplies exponentially.
But Nvidia keeps the humans. Other companies replace humans with AI.
Nvidia maintains human headcount while capturing economic value from everyone else’s automation.
The Famous Huang Quote
“You’re not going to lose your job to AI. You’re going to lose your job to someone who uses AI.”
This is brilliant marketing disguised as reassurance.
It shifts responsibility onto workers. If you lose your job, it’s your fault for not adapting, not your employer’s choice to automate.
It also creates demand for Nvidia products. Companies hear this and rush to equip employees with AI before competitors do.
More AI adoption equals more Nvidia chip sales.
Why Managers Were Resisting
Some Nvidia managers told employees to use AI less. Why would managers at the world’s leading AI chip company resist AI usage?
Possible reasons:
- AI hallucinations are creating errors
- Workflow disruption during adoption
- Teams are becoming dependent on unreliable tools
- Wanting humans to learn fundamentals before automating
Huang rejected all of it. He wants maximum AI adoption internally, even when tools don’t work perfectly yet.
What Other Tech Companies Are Doing
Microsoft told employees in June: “Using AI is no longer optional.”
Meta plans to evaluate employees based on AI usage starting in 2026.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai urged engineers to become “more AI-savvy.”
But Microsoft, Meta, Google, and Amazon have all cut staff in recent years.
They mandate AI usage while reducing headcount. That’s “automate and eliminate.”
Nvidia mandates AI usage while increasing headcount. That’s “automate and expand.”
The difference?
Nvidia sells automation. The others buy automation to reduce costs.
The Bubble Question
After earnings, Nvidia’s stock jumped, then fell. Investors questioned sustainability.
Huang told employees the market is in a “no-win” scenario:
“If we delivered a bad quarter, it is evidence there’s an AI bubble. If we delivered a great quarter, we are fueling the AI bubble.”
Michael Burry has been skeptical, comparing Nvidia to Cisco’s role in the dot-com boom and bust.
But Nvidia keeps opening offices and constructing facilities. That’s not bubble behavior. That’s confidence in sustained demand.
Who Actually Benefits
If you work at Nvidia: use AI aggressively, don’t worry about your job, company is hiring.
If you work anywhere else: your employer is buying Nvidia chips to automate your tasks.
Huang’s promise about work doesn’t apply to you. He promises Nvidia employees will have jobs. He makes no promise about employees at companies using Nvidia products.
The reassurance is for people building automation tools, not people being automated.
The Economic Paradox Nobody’s Solving
Nvidia’s growth depends on companies buying AI infrastructure to reduce labor costs.
But what happens when automation becomes so widespread that unemployment rises and consumer spending drops?
Who buys products if nobody has jobs? Who generates revenue if customers can’t afford anything?
Nvidia can’t keep growing if the economy they’re automating collapses.
Amazon avoids hiring 600,000 workers by 2033. Who buys Amazon products when those 600,000 people don’t have income?
Multiply that across every industry. Eventually, you eliminate your own customer base.
The Long-Term Math Problem
Nvidia’s model only works if they’re one of the few companies expanding while everyone else contracts.
If most companies eliminate jobs while only companies selling automation tools hire, the math breaks down.
Economic growth requires consumer spending. Consumer spending requires employment. Employment is what automation eliminates.
Huang can genuinely promise Nvidia employees will have work because their work is building systems that eliminate work elsewhere.
But the aggregate effect, across the whole economy, is job reduction. And nobody’s solved what happens then.
My Take
The business model is elegant for Nvidia and terrible for everyone else.
Nvidia profits from automation everywhere while being structurally immune to automation themselves.
They’re selling shovels during a gold rush. The gold miners are the ones getting replaced.
Huang’s “automate everything but you’ll still have jobs” message is accurate for Nvidia employees. It’s marketing nonsense for everyone else.
The contradiction between aggressive automation and aggressive hiring only works because Nvidia captures value from job elimination everywhere without experiencing job elimination internally.
It’s like being the only unemployment insurance company. The more people lose jobs, the more customers you have.
Except Nvidia sells the mechanism causing the unemployment.
The long-term economics are unsustainable. You can’t have an economy where one sector (automation tool sellers) hires while every other sector eliminates jobs.
Eventually, you run out of customers with purchasing power.
Huang is brilliant. The business model is brilliant. But it only works if Nvidia is the exception, not the rule.
If every company operated like Nvidia, selling tools to automate work elsewhere, who’s left doing the work? Who’s buying the products?
Questions For You
Does Nvidia’s business model work long-term if their customers eliminate so many jobs that consumer spending collapses?
Is Huang’s reassurance about jobs genuine, or is it marketing for a product that definitely eliminates employment?
Should we be concerned that the world’s most valuable AI company profits specifically from job elimination elsewhere?
Share your thoughts. Because the more you examine this model, the less sustainable it appears beyond Nvidia’s own growth.
