Neither Mourning Nor Celebrating: A Resident’s Skeptical View Of The ‘New Political Era’ In TN

I’m not mourning Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)’s loss, nor am I celebrating Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK)’s win. I’m well aware of the faults within established parties over the decades. However, the “first impression” of this new leadership isn’t impressive either. I don’t see a “positive change” that people apparently voted for. So far, all I see is a repetition of the same old patterns.

Can a man be a moral leader if he lacks the basic decency to defend the dignity of his own family? When a leader remains silent while the mother of his children is subjected to character assassination and derogatory rumours, it raises serious questions about his integrity. The silence becomes more concerning when social media is flooded with distasteful memes and posts that mislead the public and normalise the idea of illicit affairs. By fuelling it with calculated public appearances, it feels less like a plea for “privacy” and more like narcissistic enjoyment of the hype, regardless of the emotional pain caused to his loved ones.

It is even more hypocritical to promise women’s safety, yet remain silent when your own party official is arrested under POCSO for assaulting a child. Does advocating for women’s well-being end when you step off the stage?

You cannot claim to be a “Thooya Sakthi” (Pure Force) while your party is already stuck in moral silence and inaction. If you won’t stand up for the women in your life, or against the criminals in your party, how is it fair to label others as “Theeya Sakthi” (Evil Force)? How are you the ‘change’ people are hoping for?

Leadership requires a moral compass that works at home and within your office and not just a script for a campaign!

That being said, if this change the masses believe in actually turns out to be positive, I’ll be happy for our state. If not, it’ll be just another lesson learned. Good luck to the new administration!
