I was deeply triggered every time I read the statement “There were no women in ‘Nam.” It’s so biased, unreasonable, and completely wild to disregard the women who played a crucial role in saving so many soldiers and helping them return from the war and die in peace. To ignore their contributions is not just an oversight — it’s an injustice to the countless lives they touched and the sacrifices they made.

Spoiler Alert: The book does an excellent job of highlighting the lack of awareness and support for PTSD and war-related trauma. Throughout the story, the protagonist faces repeated moments where she desperately needs help but doesn’t know where to turn. Women veterans, in particular, are treated like second-class citizens. They are often met with the dismissive response, “There were no women in ‘Nam,” and are denied a place at support meetings like AA. It’s a painful portrayal of how these women were overlooked and ignored, despite the immense sacrifices they made.

The Women also underlines why the Vietnam War was a tragic mistake that should have never been repeated. Sadly, history seemed to repeat itself with wars like Afghanistan, where similar mistakes and consequences unfolded once again. It serves as a powerful reminder of the need to learn from the past, yet we continue to see these patterns of conflict.

This is a book that celebrates the power and resilience of women, making it a must-read for anyone looking for an inspiring, women-centered story.
