“जुआ और पश्चाताप”

(The Gamble of Regret)

A painful and realistic poetic

commentary on how a single bad

gamble can ruin a well-settled life

and bring a family to the streets.

“ कट रही थी जिंदगी हमारी भी बड़े आराम से,

( Our life, too, has passing by quite

comfortably and peacefully,)

एक दाँव ऐसा लगा बैठे, की वो भारी ऐसा पड़ा,

(But we played such a gamble, and

it took such a heavy toll,)

अच्छे खासे घर में आराम से बैठे थे रोड़ पर आ बैठे |

(That we, who were sitting

comfortably in a well-settled home,

ended up out the street.)

जीतने का जूनून सवार हुआ कुछ ऐसा,

(Such a madness to win took

complete control of me,)

अपनी बीवी के कीमती गहने भी बेच बैठे,

(That I ended up selling even my

wife’s precious jewellery,)

करते थे इबादत खुदा की, पैसे क़ो अपना

भगवान मान बैठे,

(I used to worship God, but I ended

up making money my idol.)

गमों ने ऐसा घेरा हमें, की शराब क़ो यार मान

बैठे |

(Grief gripped me in such a way

that, I ended up making alcohol my

companion.)

रंग ऐसा चढ़ा शराब का रस्सी क़ो साँप मान

बैठे,

(The intoxication of alcohol

consumed me so much that I

mistook a simple rope for a snake,)

जल रहे हैं पश्चाताप की आग में ऐसा की, खुदा से एक और मौका मांग बैठे,

(Burning in the fire of regret in such a way, that I ended up begging God for one more chanse,)

भूल गये की जिंदगी कहाँ रहम करती हैं, बस यही बात लोगों क़ो समझाए बैठे |”

(Forgetting that life never shows

and mercy; and now I sit here

explaining this very truth to the

world,)
