My quick thoughts on Aquaman 2

Spoilers ahead for Aquaman 2. I recently got around to watching Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, i was quite excited since i thoroughly enjoyed the first one. I was a bit bummed out to find out that it is a mixed bag, at least to me and its a bummer because it is Jason Momoa’s last movie as Aquaman, at least for the time being since James Gunn has not cast a new Aquaman yet. While Jason Momoa’s performance as Aquaman is great just like the first one, the rest of the movie feels alright, i love the brothers figuring things out part of the story, its a very nice touch and something relatable. The big bad of the movie is really Kordax and Black Manta is the second big bad even tho he feels like the main villain trough out the movie. While Yahya Abdul-Mateen II performance as Black Manta is top notch, the movie makes him seem like a weak villain that needs someone elses power to be able to pose any threat, trough the movie Kordax slowly takes over Black Manta’s mind and tricking him into freeing Kordax, this makes you believe Kordax must be this strong evil crazy villain. But when we finally meet Kordax he gets defeated within seconds of being free from the ice and it makes the whole build up and threat of both Black Manta and Kordax seem useless, since they both get taken out in a couple of seconds near the end. Orm’s redemption arc is very nice and how things turn out between Orm and Arthur aka Aquaman is very satisfying to me. The end where Aquaman reveals Atlantis to the world feels a bit like a copy paste of Black Panther but with more humor. Overall it is a mixed bag and the parts i enjoyed and liked the most are the family/brothers sorting things out and the redempion arc for Orm, the villains where hyped up to be strong evil big bads, but instead end up being no threat since they hardly put up a fight at the end and to me that just wasted the potential and incredible acting that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II brought to the movie.
