I don’t like to be compartmentalized. Oh, she’s an old lady. Well, yes, that’s true.

Oh, she’s a psychic. That’s true too.

She’s funny. In a barnyard kind of way.

She’s too weird for me. Probably.

She comes from nowhere. True, again. Army Brat and proud of it.

If you have to ask yourself if you should be near me, well, follow your intuition. If I make you uneasy, then don’t get off at this stop. Isn’t that what your mother taught you?

If, however, you like adventure, odd noises, talking to animals, and invisible people, then, yes, you’d like it.

If you enjoy being five again, well, yes, this is the place for you.

Have you ever cooked with Spirit? I mean, really cooked? Allowed your hand to be taken over by Spirit, wielding a spoon? It’s way cool. I’ve done it. I drew the line with a knife. Tried it once. Decided to err on the side of caution. I said, “You know what? I’d better do this.” Did you ever think you could do that? I didn’t until I did. It’s actually not something I generally talk about because if you think about it, Spirit could get involved in pretty much anything.

I did laughingly draw the line at driving my car. Too much drift.

Dancing with Spirit? Oh, that’s fun. Singing with Spirit? Some of the loveliest singing I’ve ever done. I was transformed and could hardly believe what was coming out of my mouth. I don’t do it often. I should do it today, later on, after Dennis has gone to work. Maybe they can help me get my voice warmed up.

Writing with Spirit? Well, there are two different kinds of that. When I just surrender and allow my own voice to come forward, I often sense whether Spirit is with me. I suppose if I were a nun, I’d drive everybody else nuts with it. But, yes, you can do that.

The other way is to do psychic channeling, where I give over completely. Or, as much as I can. I do have to admit that I like standing on the ground, so I could do better in that department. Back in the day when I drank a lot, I feel like I was a better channel, but I don’t drink anymore and had to adjust.

I stand back and allow Spirit room to speak without much interference from me. Much. For instance, I’ve only ever done psychic channeling in English, but if I could go deeper, if I could really remove myself, my human tendency to paint the world away from what Spirit says, who is to say that Spirit couldn’t speak in Russian or a language I’ve never spoken? I’ve tried it before, but to remove myself that far? Ah, there is still a part of me that doesn’t want to do it. Why?

I couldn’t tell you. That I’d get lost? I know it would never happen, but once upon a time, I would have thought that. Could those old feelings still be a part of who I am? I think so.

So, how do you walk through life knowing things and yet not knowing things?

It’s hard to explain.

Maybe it’s like thinking the Earth is flat and then discovering it is round.

Here’s something I’ve been wondering about. I have some tools of divination. I’ve got a couple of decks of Tarot cards. I’ve got a crystal ball. I’ve got a bag of Runes. I’ve got all sorts of stones. If you’re trying to quit smoking, put some Jasper in your pocket. Writers can use any sort of blue stone. I prefer Lapis lazuli. Blue would relate to the chakra in your throat, the speaker part of you, your writer’s voice. My birthstone is a sapphire. Blue all the way.

Anyway, I thought that any self-respecting psychic would use a tool like that. That was years ago, but I still have them. Occasionally, I’ll try one or the other out.

I’ve never been able to make my crystal ball work. Maybe “making it work” isn’t the right term. Somebody told me once that seeing auras was sort of like looking at a magic eye picture. You’ve almost got to cross your eyes to unfocus and then focus on the picture to finally see the magic part of the picture underneath. Maybe looking at a crystal ball is more like that. I wouldn’t know because it’s never really happened for me. What I am able to do is to see in my mind’s eye. I have to close my eyes, mostly, to do that, though it has worked sometimes with my eyes open. It’s sort of right of center, beside me, where I can see things. They fade quickly, though I’ve asked Spirit to help me out with it. I can sense movement.

The thing with crystal balls is that they are sort of de rigueur for a psychic. However, you can scry with a pie pan of water. Or some other vessel. Just fill it to the brim, then fill it until it almost overflows the edges of the bowl, but it doesn’t spill. It’s like a cushion where the surface tension is so taut that it forms a tiny dome over the rim of the bowl. Now, try to move it. Ha! You need to have it wherever you want to do the “looking” and not jostle it after you sit down. I’ve jostled. I know what I’m talking about.

You can also use a scrying mirror. I used to have one somewhere. It still may be here. It had a dark purple mirror and was decorated with all sorts of magical things, like stars and such, on the frame. Or you could paint one side of a piece of glass black with an opaque matte paint. Google told me that one. You’d use the other side to do your scrying. You don’t want to look at yourself, just sort of angle it away from you and then look at the mirror.

I’m sort of hazy about what happens next. You want your vision to be hazy and unfocused. I’ve never really had that happen, but the “rules” are that something from the past comes in from the left and something from the future moves in from the other side. There is supposed to be a sort of mist, like steam from a steam room, that swirls around, and as the vision happens, it will move forward into your field of vision. Keep a notebook or pad of paper and a pen at your side so you can record impressions.

In my own psychic visions that can happen when my eyes are open, and I’m busy doing something, I’ve developed, over the years, a sort of shorthand with my Spirit Guide and others in Spirit. Holding your nose translates into stinking thinking or a stinking idea. I see one shaking their left hand right now. I suppose that might be, “Oh, what a hot tamale.” Oh, that’s funny. And a new one. There’s the old thumbs-up and thumbs-down movement for good idea/bad idea.

Lots of psychics have their own version of shorthand with Spirit. Some of them also experience sensations in their bodies that relate to psychical pain in the body for folks who have passed on. That’s never happened to me, nor do I think I’d like to feel an excruciating pain somewhere to indicate a wound or tumor. No thanks.

Somebody in Spirit, I’m assuming it was my Spirit Guide Seth, just indicated that these bits of shorthand can originate from their side too. You’d have to ask or guess about what the gesture or vision means. Or, you might know intuitively.

Okay, can we try one?

Certainly….certainement.

Okay, here is an example of Spirit speaking in another language. I knew it was certainly, yet it was said in French. It’s been so long since I spoke French…1968? I just couldn’t remember and had to look it up for the correct spelling.

If we might?

Please.

Allow yourself to be receptive and open to an idea. Yes, you can close your eyes. The scrying surface you typically use is the backside of your eyelids. In the interest of recording every nuance here, the channel opened her eyes and looked out in a seemingly annoyed fashion.

I’ve got a real bad pain in my neck right now. Right side, shooting down into my shoulder and back.

Bear with me. We won’t be long.

Okay. I’m good. I was tense.

Fine, your body will react to whatever, to anything that you do that is new or unfamiliar. Learning to drive is a good example. We won’t be long.

Okay.

What do you see?

Nothing. Red.

Why red?

That’s the inside of my eyelids!

Yes, try to make your eyes unfocus even behind your eyelids. What are you feeling?

I felt a shift.

A physical shift?

Yes. It was like I shifted back half an inch. It was a tiny amount. It was like my whole body shifted back in my chair. Yet, my chair didn’t move. The pain is back.

That’s because you are in two places at once. Do it again.

Oh.

What?

It’s pretty.

I can see that.

It’s a river, a calm river. The sun is shining. Nobody is around. I can see both sides of the river. It’s not that wide, maybe 25 feet. It’s in New York. It’s a long time ago. I’m in tears.

Yes. What else?

I’m wearing a large dress. It’s from a long time ago. My husband is coming and my children. He’s bringing them. We’re having a little bit of a picnic. Oh, it’s so pretty.

So, you can see. You saw something. It was you. It was a long time ago. By the dress what would you guess?

Civil War times. 1800s.

Now, I might mention that for people who have not experienced on a daily basis this sort of vision, the first few are typically emotional, especially as they are also personal. If you were to continue seeking psychic visions, it would be easier for you.

Yes, like when I was doing past-life regressions. Those first ones were stunning in the, well, they were frightful and stunning.

Yes, and what did I tell you to do?

You said to remember that everybody has happy moments in their lives. You said that the violent spots are more like a train or a car wreck, and the people looking on can’t tear their eyes away from it.

Well, I didn’t say a train wreck.

No, you just said something about magnetic moments.

Still not, but that’s okay. You got the idea and, I’m certain, your readers have too. How do you feel?

Better. That was something.

You just need some practice.

Hey, thanks. I hadn’t expected to do that here, but, yes, a firsthand account of a psychic vision. Also, when you do these things, use your own life as practice. Once you are accustomed to whichever means of psychic divination you are using, then you can start practicing on others. The other thing I suppose to remember is that the dramatic parts can really wreck your concentration. You get used to it.

As I was writing this article, I came upon a site you might be interested in. It’s the College of Psychic Studies in the UK. This is their article about scrying. They talk about using a candle flame, a fire, a lake, washing dishes, and stirring soup as the medium to scry.

When I learned how to “be” a psychic, all I had were other psychics to look at. I can’t imagine it’s much different now. Some have schools. I learned from a book and some tapes from Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer and their guides, Orin and DaBen. “Opening to Channel” is the book you want for that. Both channels have passed on, though their websites offer information and free recordings of their channeling with meditation recordings. I love how DaBen used to roll everything up and out of Duane’s throat. You’d have to listen to one.

Anyway, this piece has gotten long enough. I could go on and on, which I have in a book that is yet to be published. Perhaps this year. This is just a little bit of information about divination.
