Abstract, The Social Dilemma, and The Minimalists are documentaries and movies that changed my perspective of life, the world and how the technological systems actually work. They showed me a part of life I didn’t know existed and I saw that change is not one big thing that happens in split seconds but a slight turn towards a particular direction.
The Social Dilemma: It is the gradual, slight, imperceptible change in your own behaviour and perception that is the product being sold — Jaron Lanier. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic — Arthur Clarke. After watching this documentary, i thought of the fact that our generation is more prone to depression, suicide and every other psychological harm because there are systems working behind the scenes to keep users who choose to be, addicted and influenced. I saw that there are so many negative effects on us because we are addicted to the system. It is possible to change how social media works by just making the right choices but first admitting to ourselves willingly that those bad outcomes are coming directly as a product of our choices.
The Minimalist: Minimalism is the thing that gets us past the things so that we can make more room for life’s most important things; which are not really things. I saw that minimalism is not about doing the bare minimum but about using the available resources to do more. It is about declustering, and making the most out of the available resource. It is just simply every product serving it’s purpose. It is in my perspective, the ability to know what your needs are and what your wants are, is distinguishing necessity from luxury; it is knowing that because the advertisement or the item looks good doesn’t mean it should be in your possession.
Abstract: I learnt from abstract that design is based on giving the best experience to the user and not necessarily what you want, design is a work of work that should pass a message clearly while giving the user the best experience
