I Shared My Light, but No One Stayed to See It Burn
I’ve always wanted to belong. To find people who would look at me and see me — not the version I pretend to be, not the mask I wear just to fit in — but the real me. All I ever wanted was genuine friendship, genuine love, genuine company.
But day by day, it feels like I’m standing in a world where everyone’s against me. Where smiles are painted, words are empty, and connections are fleeting.
And the hardest part? I’ve given so much of myself to people who never stayed. I poured out my energy, my kindness, my laughter, and my trust. I clapped for others when they won, I cheered for them when they needed support, I celebrated their victories like they were mine.
But when it was my turn — when I achieved something, when I needed someone — there was no one there. No applause. No warmth. Just silence that echoed louder than any noise.
It feels like invisibility. Like standing in a crowded room yet being completely unseen. Like screaming at the top of my lungs, but no sound ever reaching anyone.
I wanted friends I could hold onto, but I was left holding nothing but air. I wanted genuine love, but I was met with hollow smiles. I wanted belonging, but I only found emptiness.
I shared my light — but no one stayed to see it burn. And that kind of loneliness hurts in a way I can’t fully explain. Because it’s not just being alone — it’s being surrounded, yet still feeling abandoned. It’s giving everything you have, only to realize it was never enough to make someone stay.
But maybe this is the truth I need to accept. Not everyone is meant to see my light. Not everyone deserves it. And maybe, just maybe, the right people will come — the ones who don’t just notice the flame when it’s bright, but who will sit with me even when it flickers.
Until then, I’ll keep burning — even if it means turning myself into ashes. Because maybe my light was never made to be gentle, never meant to be understood. Maybe it was always meant to sear, to scar, to remind me that even in the absence of applause, even in the silence of empty rooms, I can still set the darkness on fire.
And if no one stays, if no one ever claps — then let my flames be the only witness.
