FOOD CHOICES
You are what you eat. There are lots of choices. Eat better, live better.
Drive down the main streets of any town or city — your senses will be attracted to, even assaulted by, signage. Lights and action and logos and “specials” and “deals.” It is hard to resist a four-course meal for $4.00. Except, of course, I probably won’t get a dime’s worth of nutrients for my investment. It would be better to take 15 minutes, park, go into the grocery store, and buy $4.00 worth of fruit. It would fill me up, and reward me with feel-good magic.
One of my new season’s resolutions is to eat two things for breakfast, four things for lunch, and three things for supper. I know that I need vitamins, minerals, protein, fiber, and lots of water. I am not counting water as one of the “things” I am “eating” at meal-times. I am not pretending that I will never eat pizza again. Once a month, even once a year — maybe. But I am gonna stay out of the drive-thru, and I am gonna practice self-discipline. And I will be rewarded!
By the end of 2017 — I will be able to zip the seven pairs of really cool, nearly new pants/jeans/shorts in that box marked “smaller items.” The alternative is that, if I can’t zip them by December 31, 2017, I have to donate them to the Salvation Army. And I really want to wear them — I choose to wear them.
