The APC had organized the rally to drum up support for its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; the state governorship candidate, Senator Teslim Folarin, and other candidates in the state.

Some of the supporters were said to have been injured during the attack, which was blamed on the Chairman, Park Management System (PMS), Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, aka Auxiliary, and his boys.

Upon reading the article this morning I hit up a seasoned Ibadan resident who is a friend of mine to ascertain his side of things. After a little laugh, he said that the article should have actually been written as “Auxillary boys and Teslim Folarin’s boys played with guns like toys during Senator Folarin’s campaign march”. They both jammed for the road, Teslim boys shot into the air to register their presence, Aux boys responded say dem too dey house gidigba, one person (only one person) was injured on the head, and not even from the gun-play.

We have entered into campaign season even though the only candidate that seems to be taking the early days seriously is the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi who took Lagos by storm over the weekend.

Fracas and strife among the supporters of the different major parties are going to become the main staple of our news columns in the coming months so I would only be dealing with the major ones, especially as regards the size or the intensity as a lot of accusations and counter-accusations are going to rend the air.

Senator Folarin afterward claimed that Governor Seyi Makinde thugs, led by the notorious Auxiliary, launched coordinated attacks on APC members and support groups. He even added that “Auxiliary attacked the procession from behind aware that the candidates of the party, who were also among the crowd, were at the front but that as peace-loving and law-abiding citizens, they didn’t take the law into their own hands.”

In retaliation, the Public Relations of the Park Management System, Eniola Jelili, debunked the allegation though saying that it was only aimed at tarnishing the image of their chairman. “The PMS would like to state unequivocally that nothing of such happened and Alhaji Auxiliary was not in Labiran or around the area at that moment.”
