A Cup of Tea and a Conversation

Do you remember the last time you actually had a genuine interaction? Has it been a long time since you felt a weight lifting off your chest?

Most of us carry this unexplainable heaviness within ourselves. Sometimes we try to brush it off and sometimes we actually try to do something about it. We find various channels to distract ourselves. We engage in various recreational activities- reading, art and even content creation- but at the end, that pit just seems to get deeper.

This raises a question: Are we lonely?

If you look at the tip of the iceberg, then the answer will be no. I mean, that’s what it should be, right? We are constantly online, sharing reels and interacting with our friends. This is not what loneliness looks like.

We have mistaken constant communication for genuine connection.

And that’s exactly where the problem lies.

We need to go beyond the surface. The iceberg goes deep into the water and that’s where the reality lies.

We are all just pretending on the surface. Many of the interactions that we have online are superficial. What truly connects us is the human component of understanding, empathy and humanity. Reacting to a message on Instagram cannot take the place of a genuine social connection.

A genuine interaction should make you think and rethink. It has to force you to contemplate.

It should make you feel alive.

Maybe a simpler world would be a boon. No social media or social obligations. No rat race. No pressure for our lives to be perfect. Just genuine people with a hot cup of tea, having a heartfelt conversation beneath a tree.

Maybe that simple human connection is the spark we have been searching for all along.
