Dhuma, Vyatipata, Parivesa, Indrachapa & Upaketu These five are declared to be upagrahas born from the Sun. (Five lights of the sun). The remaining two are Sun & Moon lights.

Parasara first introduces solar Upagrahs & sons of Saturn: Upagrahs literally means secondary planet or subsidiary graha. They are nonphysical, shadowy, time-generated points, unlike the seven celestial planets. They arise from the sun’s daily motion & Saturn’s principle of suffering & karma.

From Saturn’s hora, Saturn’s upagraha are calculated & the rest are calculated from the sun’s motion. Upagrahas from the Sun family affect the native on a soul level.

Parasara treats them as: Karmic indicators, Punishment-bearing entities. Agent of Papa (sin), Roga (disease), bandhana (bondage), and dukha (sorrow). Without these, a human should not exist on Earth.

If dhuma influences, the native would have a clouded mind or a confused thought process. (If placed in Cancer sign or with Moon) But the same upagraha is positive with Mercury. The person will be able to manipulate others.

Vyatipata:

In a Natal chart, sudden fall or unexpected reversals. When life is going very smoothly, Vyatipata can make a sudden break.

The planet that is responsible of stopping the daily tasks, is Vyatipata. If this subplanet sit with any karaka grah, it will give problems to that aspect.

Example: Darakarka. Marriage Proposals were set to visit the house & they won’t come. The situation will be delayed or a sudden break. If it sits with matrikaraka, the problems will occur while building a house, while buying vehicles, and while buying properties.

If it sits with Gyantikaraka (Ganatikaraka), then it’s positive. Diseases will be reversed.

Parivesa: (another Rahu)

Positive aspect: the other person will do the job, and you get the benefit. A research paper is someone else’s, and you take the credit.

The best placement for Upaketu is the 3rd house. You should have fear of any random actions.
