How I Saved Over ₩160,000 With Discover Seoul Pass

10 attractions, 3 days, at 70% off — here’s how I did it.

If you’re planning your first trip to Seoul, the Discover Seoul Pass (DSP) might just be the smartest purchase you’ll make. This all-in-one pass gives you ‘free’ access to major attractions, discounts on experiences, and even mobile data or transport perks, depending on the type you buy.

Available in card or mobile versions and lasting 24, 48, 72, or 120 hours, it’s designed to make sightseeing effortless — and surprisingly affordable.

Here’s exactly how I used the 48-hour pass over three days in Seoul and saved more than ₩160,000 (~S$150).

💡 Tips to Maximise Your Discover Seoul Pass (DSP)

1. Start your day 1 slightly after Lotte World opens

A key perk of the DSP is that it only activates when you first use it. So if you start at 10 am on Day 1, it remains valid until 9:59 am on Day 3 — a full 48 hours.

To make the most of that window, plan to start day 1 after the opening of an attraction you’ll spend the most at on the last day (for me, that was Lotte World). Beginning slightly after opening lets you cover more attractions across the first 2 days without wasting precious time.

2. Plan ahead — cluster attractions by location

Before your trip, check the **official DSP site** for the current list of attractions, as the lineup changes from time to time.

Then, pin your chosen spots on Naver Map or Google Maps, and group them by proximity or subway line.

Visiting nearby attractions on the same day saves not just time, but also energy — especially if you’re using public transport.

3. Choose the card pass if it’s your first trip

The card version doubles as:

  • Your admission ticket to attractions
  • A T-money transit card
  • A convenience store payment card
  • And a fun souvenir!

This means you won’t need to buy a separate T-money card, and since it doesn’t expire, you can reuse it on future visits.

If you already have T-money, or don’t plan to use public transport much, the mobile pass might be better — it includes a free 5-day eSIM for data.

🌅 I’ve tried both the Sunset Cruise (fun to feed seagulls for ₩2,000) and Moonlight Music Cruise (great live music, but chilly in late autumn — bring extra jacket!).

Day 2: Gyeongbokgung & Insadong

5. Hanboknam (Gyeongbokgung)

  • Regular price: ₩10,000 — ₩60,000, depending on the hanbok type and rental duration → ✅ Free with DSP
  • Rent a traditional or themed hanbok (recommended) and get free basic hairstyling for the entire day. 2 to 4h is more than sufficient to explore the nearby attractions and take some photos.
  • Dress lightly underneath (e.g., sleeveless white top) for comfort and aesthetics. You will be advised to wear the hanbok on top of your top and pants.
  • Lockers are provided to keep your bags and clothings.

Take note of the following timings:

🎢 Thrill-seekers’ tip: Outdoor rides have shorter queues (15–45 min vs up to 1h+ indoors). For French Revolution (indoor roller coasters), take a queue number early and return at your time slot — I only waited 5 minutes!

🎃 Visiting in October? Expect zombies roaming around at night for Halloween!

💰 Total Cost Saved

  • Total Cost (My itinerary) = ₩231,800
  • Total Cost (Potential Maximum) = ₩257,800
  • Cost of Discover Seoul Pass (48H) = ₩70,000
  • Amount Saved ≈ ₩161,800–187,800 (70+%)

🛍 Where to Buy the Discover Seoul Pass

✈️ Final Thoughts

The Discover Seoul Pass is a great value if you plan to hit multiple paid attractions, especially premium ones like Lotte World, COEX Aquarium, or Hanbok rental experiences.

It may not be worthwhile for a slow-paced or cafe-hopping trip, but if you love sightseeing, culture, and amusement parks, it’s a no-brainer.
