My 2025 Learning Adventure (aka “How to Stay Relevant When You’re Already Old”) 🎯

Twenty years into this engineering leadership gig, and I just realized something terrifying: the moment I think I’ve got it all figured out is probably when I become that dinosaur manager everyone politely nods at while secretly rolling their eyes.

So here’s my 2025 “please don’t let me become irrelevant” challenge:

🎓 Wharton Executive Education’s CTO Program: Because apparently there’s more to being a CTO than just saying “make it faster” and “why is it down?” Who knew?

🔐 CISSP: Time to get serious about cybersecurity. After years of building stuff in regulated environments, I’ve learned that “it worked on my machine” isn’t a valid security strategy

📊 Advanced Data Analytics Professional: Upgrading from “trust me, the numbers look good” to actually knowing what the numbers mean (revolutionary concept, I know)

After scaling teams from startup chaos to enterprise-level operations, I know that continuous learning isn’t just about personal growth — it’s about staying relevant to the teams and organizations that depend on your leadership. And honestly, gut feelings and berry shake-fueled intuition aren’t scalable decision-making frameworks.

Already conquered: ✅ Google Gen AI Leadership — Now I can confidently distinguish between actual AI capabilities and marketing fluff. Game changer!

Why this random mix? Look, after scaling teams from “everyone sits in one room” to “wait, what timezone are you in again?” I’ve learned that being a modern CTO means you need to be part strategist, part security paranoid, part data nerd, and apparently part AI whisperer.

The Wharton program will teach me how to sound executive-y without losing my soul, CISSP will help me sleep better at night knowing our digital doors are actually locked, and the analytics cert means I can finally back up my wild architectural claims with actual math instead of just enthusiastic hand-waving.

Plus, my distributed teams deserve better than a leader who makes decisions based on “it feels right” and my daily caffeinated berry shake ritual. They’re stuck with me either way, but at least I can try to level up! 😄

Starting this journey now because continuous learning isn’t just about staying current — it’s about staying curious. And honestly, if I stop learning, I’ll probably start talking about “the good old days” unironically, and nobody wants that.
