The Rise of AI-Artistry (Automated Inexperience) In Self-Expression: The Misguided and Faithless Future of the American Music Industry

A reflection on AI-use in singing-songwriting today and why automated intelligence will be the downfall of spiritually impactful music; can inspiration be automated? Why I believe musical expression is a gift from Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; and how the death of my mother on Christmas Eve of 2024, and my father’s grief over losing his wife of 49-years helped transform a melody into miracle.

Introduction

Maybe Prince said it best, during a 1999 interview with Time Magazine, when he commented on the increasing technological advancements and forewarned of us its impact on the music industry…even as far back as 26 years ago. Farley (2025) reflects on the ironic message that Prince told him in an interview with one of the world’s most popular rock musicians, that even in a world prior to the global panic and tipping point of New Years Day back in year 2000, dubbed “Y2K.” The “Party Like its 1999” singer, upon watching Farley (2025) prepare for notations of their interview; “Could you please leave your tape recorder off; I don’t trust what future technology might be capable of, especially with unauthorized recordings of his voice” (Farley, 2025, Time Magazine). What is music but the labor of human love, emotion, and understanding? Music has existed in our world since the dawn of time; what is it not but the sound of love and understanding of human beings, as life persists through God and the Lord’s undying love for us, “With psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit […] sing and make music from your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19).

From Melody to Miracle

I never understood the magical beauty of music composition until the day my mother died, when my father drove to the nearest electronics store to buy a dynamic microphone the day after my mother’s death, unaware of what he was doing or what was about to happen…for the first time in 50-years, my father would pick up a pencil, sheet music, and furiously-document the sounds reverberating inside his skull with perfect precision, jotting down a composite of lyrical love letters to my mother; detailing the truths, the pains, the joys, and the meaning of my mother’s life. A man who rarely sang in front of his children, a man who lost his entire life and will to live in a matter of an instant, penned every word that would become a part of lengthy discography, created one of the most compelling works of musical importance that I know, and considering the market of AI-generated music dominating what is popular and what is marketed, it is a miracle that my father’s music holds relevancy online (as my father is only one man, no producer, no record manager, no network, no Automated Intelligence.)

The Rise of AI-Generated Musicians

According to Billboard, within the past few months the global music charts have seen a rise in “artists” and “bands” topping charts across multiple genres; unlike the majority of musicians whose image, style, and likeness are the product of a team of songwriters and music producers mastering an artist’s product; it is no surprise that inauthenticity has graced the top tiers of the music industry with music composition becoming further removed from the artist, as there are more than six acts or bands that’re solely created by Automated Intelligence or by a user of AI-based Software that generates prompts into futuristic, acoustic, electronic, and computer-based music without the need for any musical or instrumental expertise or knowledge about the basics of musicianship, composition, or musical theory (Farley 2025). This is troublesome if one considers that statistical analysis shows that up to 97% of the general population that listens to music is unable to discern authentic artistry from automated, computer-based music (Farley, 2025, Time Magazine).

God, Family, and Country?

Surprisingly so, one of the genres of American music that is quickly infusing AI-generated instruments, auto-tuned and heavily filtered vocals with the option of changing vocal styles, accents, and lyrics all without opening the user’s mouth is Country music. Bands such as; Breaking Rust, Cain Walker, Aventhist, Outlaw Gospel, Benson Boone, David Guetta, Don Neuen, Grimes, and The Velvet Sundown are all well-known musicians and digital bands that bolster their creative output with AI-software, easy-to-use tools for instantaneous song production; with some projects utilizing human-created musical outputs with moderate AI-control over production and sound quality, and other projects showcase only automated-talent with a 99.5 percent dependency on creating music from entirely computer-generated notes and sounds without the need for any musical interest, experience, or ingenuity (Harrington, 2025). For a genre that long prides itself on touting a network of artists and bands that demonstrate the significance of “God, Family, and Country” in today’s society; utilizing themes of transparency, honesty, justice, law, and Christianity as pertinent to the genre’s existence and the prevalence of certain bands and songs among the charts that dominate and prevent the visibility of new and upcoming artists. This would be the case with my father, Placido Dean LaDelfa’s artistic endeavors in expressing the love he has for my mother in song; the purity of his artistry relies in the transparency of the musician himself, boasting not of his marketing value or devoting an artistic measure to the quantification of music, but only in the qualification of its means of existence — organically-farmed from God’s powers of creation, stemming from a human soul.

Although, On Hallowed Sounds is a newer artist and is made entirely accessible via technological advances; internet electronic databases, websites, and social media applications used for music-sharing, website creation, and social networking; the primary components of all aspects of On Hallowed Sounds’ music, including publication of four complete albums within 12-months, is authentic, tangible, organic, real, truthful, and allows the fruit of a proper relationship with God to bear on the branches of my father’s creative strength.

AI and Talking to God

Oddly enough, technology is susceptible to ungodly manipulation; amplifying sin, allowing evildoers to pervade the will of good people through lying, accusations, and slandering others on public forums; such issues can make or break a musical artist’s career and chances of gaining notoriety through listings on mainstream charts; use of AI in composition by traditional pre-technological musicians without documentation of the song’s proof of realism in composition or sampled assets, will destroy the legitimacy of the artist as well as the existence of the song online and in the artist’s repertoire, especially considering the rising use of AI-detection tools and displaying prompts showing AI-based media that persists among the higher ranks of in image, sound, and document creation that is technologically-constructed but manually-developed. AI-use without referencing the method in which the song was created will prevent the release of a song on mainstream digital distribution platforms; however, artists that are created from an electronic platform, via coded algorithms and without basic skills or music talent, specifically among the genres of Country and Chrisitan/Spiritual Worship musicians is troublesome when it comes to expressing one’s love for God and Jesus Christ; a computer cannot grieve, a computer cannot suffer, a computer cannot pray for forgiveness, a computer has no soul, and therefore AI-based musical artists and songs are windowless rooms to the soul. Can a computer truly worship God and His only begotten Son? Can an AI-generated song be used for spiritual worship by human beings without risk of being misled by Satan? Stemming from my experiences of watching my father transform his quieted suffering and internal pain into the most beautiful form of spiritual devotion that exists between God and the human soul; existing as a musical project, On Hallowed Sounds; creating the devotional music and sounds of worship which allows for the forging of a good relationship between ourselves and our loved ones, the weightlessness of the soul, and our soul’s future under the spiritual dominion of Our Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit in the afterlife.
