From First Drops to a Flowing River of Change

Sometimes, we measure change through numbers like how many students, how many centres, how many results. There is nothing wrong in this, but to see the real impact of a place, you need to look at the ground reality, that is harder to count.

It lies in the pause before a child raises their hand for the first time.

In the moment when a hesitant voice turns into a confident answer.

In the quiet shift from “Can I?” to “I can.”

These are not loud or dramatic transformations, yet they matter the most. They don’t happen overnight. This happens gently, in everyday efforts, often unseen but deeply felt.

As I write this, with clouds softly raining outside, I find myself thinking of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and the way he believed in the quiet power of young minds and their dreams. Whenever he interacted, he didn’t lecture students, he talked with them.

He would ask simple questions that stayed:

“What is your dream?”

“What will you give to the nation?”

In doing so, he made students feel seen, heard, and responsible. He is the one who encourages us all to dream. And perhaps that is where Pehchaan The Street School connects so beautifully with his vision. Here, education is not just about books or lessons but providing a way to help students discover their dreams. It gives them the confidence to realise their capabilities and limitless potential.

As he once said, “A dream is not that which you see while sleeping; it is something that does not let you sleep.” At Pehchaan The Street School, this idea is not just remembered but is lived every day. Here, children are not only encouraged to dream, but are also given the confidence, support, and direction to turn those dreams into reality.

A Journey That Grew Beyond Expectations

1600+ students, 1000+ passionate volunteers and 10+ learning Centres. These are not just numbers, they are an emotion, a long fulfilling journey. From starting with just a handful of ten students and a small group of five people with a shared vision, to growing into a community this strong — it’s incredible to see how far it has come. Every step, every struggle, and every small beginning has led it here, making this journey truly special.

From Local Classrooms to Global Voices

What makes Pehchaan The Street School’s journey even more powerful is its widening circle. It has now gone global. It echoes the sounds of more than 1600 students on the global stage. Volunteers and interns have joined from across continents from Nigeria to the United Kingdom, Canada to Australia, Nepal to France, and beyond.

Different accents, different perspectives, different educational backgrounds — yet one shared purpose.

When someone thousands of miles away chooses to contribute to a classroom in Delhi, it sends a powerful message: access to education is not a local concern but it is a global responsibility. It sends the message to be together, to empower each other and to create a thriving ecosystem for future generations.

Stories That Say It Better

It doesn’t matter how much I say Pehchaan The Street School is different, or how beautiful and fulfilling this journey has been. People don’t truly understand it until they hear real stories of change and success. And yes, we all care about real impacts and how right guidance and support can transform lives.

You’ll be delighted to know Pehchaan The Street School has produced many inspiring stories, and Ayush’s journey is one of them. He is a student from the GTB Nagar centre who dreams of becoming an engineer. When he heard about a special programme that guides students in different fields, he decided to try. Even though there was very little time, he went to Shubham Sir for help and started preparing with full focus.

With hard work and Shubham Sir’s support, Ayush gave the exam without expecting much. His mentor even went with him to the exam centre to support him. When the results came, everyone was so happy because Ayush had cleared the test. It was a very emotional and proud moment.

Later, there was a problem because the school was very far from his home, but after a request, it was changed to a closer one near Civil Lines. Now Ayush is in Class 9 and moving towards his dream. His story shows that if you try and have the right support, good things can happen.

Just like Ayush, Deepak’s journey is equally special. From studying on the streets to visiting Rashtrapati Bhavan, his story shows how far determination and the right support can take you.

Deepak joined Pehchaan The Street School back in 2015. Coming from a family where education wasn’t easy, he still chose to learn, grow, and to prove himself. Whether it was helping around the centre or staying dedicated to his studies, he always gave his best.

Deepak — An Inspiration

Deepak — An Inspiration

One of the most special moments in his journey was when he made a bold promise that he told his mentor that if he scored 75% or above in Class 12, he should get a laptop. And guess what?… he didn’t just meet that goal; he went beyond it by scoring an impressive 83%. True to the promise, he received the laptop, but more than that, it became a symbol of his hard work, consistency, and self-belief.

Even during the tough time of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many students struggled to continue learning, Deepak didn’t stop. With the support of Pehchaan The Street School, he managed to study online and kept pushing himself. Moments like these, along with experiences like visiting Rashtrapati Bhavan and meeting an IRS Commissioner, made his journey truly inspiring for all.

These students have truly brought this line “Where there is a will, there is a way” into life.

There are so many stories like these, and Pehchaan The Street School keeps creating many more like Ayush and Deepak. But honestly, this journey doesn’t feel complete without you. You can be a part of it in your own way.

A quick glimpse into what your internship journey here could look like

What if an internship gave you more than just something to add to your CV? What if it actually helped you take real responsibility and be part of something bigger than yourself? Then, won’t you grab this opportunity?

Pehchaan The Street School is actively hiring interns across multiple domains. It is providing you a chance to create real impact. We welcome individuals who are willing to learn, contribute, and grow while making a difference in the lives of our students.

If you enjoy teaching and being around children, you can volunteer or intern as an offline teacher at our any centre according to your suitability. Your time can truly make a difference by not just helping them learn, but by sharing simple joys like playing Holi with colours or lighting diyas together on Diwali. And, someday, this relationship develops into a pure bond.

Just imagine giving a few hours of your week to sit beside a child as they read their first full paragraph with confidence, a small effort for you, but a moment they will carry forever.

For those interested in creativity and communication, roles such as Social-media promoters, Content writers, and Graphic designers offer an opportunity to spread awareness and express meaningful stories that inspire change. It is one of the most effective ways to garner larger attention towards our journey. Each intern works within a structured mentoring system. Team Leads guide them patiently — suggesting corrections, refining ideas, encouraging reflection.

If you have an interest in strategy and management, you can explore roles of PR and Marketing, Project Management, and HR. These positions help manage our Pehchaan The Street School social media with the recent updates, creatively engaged posts, giving a life to these handles. They also promote and bring collaborations creating further possibilities and aiding our students’ studies ultimately.

Students from psychology backgrounds can also contribute by understanding children’s behaviour, supporting emotional well-being, and creating a safe, encouraging learning environment.

We also encourage college students to join us as college ambassadors, where they can represent Pehchaan The Street School in their campus, build networks, and motivate others to be part of a larger cause.

Afterall, at its heart, Pehchaan The Street School is not just an organisation. It is a network of individuals choosing to show up consistently, responsibly, and compassionately.

No matter which role you choose, the experience at Pehchaan The Street School would be the best. It is a space where your skills are valued, your ideas are heard, and your efforts create a lasting impact.
