Acts of Kindness: The Story Behind Our Mission

It all started with Amal Fellowship — “Mega Project.” Our team,a vibrant mix of students from diverse backgrounds, including aspiring chartered accountants,IT professional, BS chemistry and individuals from other fields, found ourselves at a crossroad.

We were “Parindas” (birds), eager to take flight and make a meaningful impact, initially drawn to the cause of bird welfare. However, with that path already explored by another batch group, we embarked on a brainstorming journey, a creative storm to identify a project that resonated with each of us, held the potential for long-term engagement, and, most importantly, allowed us to create tangible change and that’s who the idea of Acts of Kindness was born.

Acts of Kindness is a social initiative that encourages individuals to contribute to creating a positive change in their communities through small, impactful events.

The Act of Kindness team : Talha Shahzad, Iqra Riaz, Syeda Momena, Mudasir Shabir, Furqan Asif, Kalsoom Shahzadi, Huzaifa Ahmad Shabbir and Meer Haji.

Our vision is to light up our share of the candle, meaning we believe that every small act of kindness, whether it’s a little help to someone in need,spending time with elders and orphans,recycling waste, or caring for animals, planting a tree can add up to a bigger impact.

The core issue we aim to address is a common one: in the hustle of our busy lives, it’s easy to feel that addressing larger community needs falls to someone else e.g NGOs, government etc. Whether it’s community well-being, environmental sustainability, or animal care, the assumption often is that someone, somewhere, will handle it. This mindset, while understandable, breeds inaction, a missed opportunity for the collective positive impact that could be achieved if everyone contributed, even in a small way.

We’ve identified the root of this problem in several factors, including the genuine time constraints of modern life, a feeling that individual actions are insignificant, and a lack of readily accessible avenues for community involvement.

Our solution is simple and powerful: a collective approach to action, where we don’t wait for others but take the first step ourselves. By starting with small, manageable efforts, we show that even the busiest person can contribute in meaningful ways.

Our plan is to bring this to life in Lahore in consistent and engaging way: we commit to undertaking one act of kindness each week. We believe in the power of visibility, so we will be carefully recording these acts and sharing them across our social media platforms, aiming to inspire a wider movement and encourage others to take action within their own lives and communities.

To ensure the sustainability of this initiative which will allow us to continue making a tangible impact, we will be raising funds through various means, including community-focused fundraising events, reaching out to friends and family for contributions, and potentially offering opportunities to join our acts of kindness for a small ticket fee. This will allow us to continue our weekly endeavours and expand our reach in fostering a kinder Lahore.

Our first Act of Kindness, a visit to a local orphanage, is planned for this week, and We as a team are in the final stages of preparation. Our process began with a group Zoom meeting where we collectively decided on this initial act of kindness. Our team leader, Talha, then took the initiative to contact the orphanage, coordinating a suitable time and day for our visit this week.

With the date confirmed, we delved into the specifics of the event. We brainstormed interactive games that would bring joy to the children, planned the gifts we wanted to share, and decided on a nourishing menu for the day. To ensure everything runs smoothly, we are currently finalizing the division of tasks amongst ourselves.

To support these efforts, we also initiated a fundraising drive. Mudasir took charge of designing a compelling poster to share with our friends, family, and Amal fellows, outlining our cause and inviting contributions for this week’s activity. Talha, in his role as leader, will be diligently following up with everyone, ensuring tasks are on track and helping everyone with their assigned task and personally reaching out to our batch-mates to explain our project and request donations for our upcoming visit.

Specific responsibilities are being allocated based on individual skills and interests

1. Kalsoom is planning the flow and execution of the activities for the day this week.
2. Furqan, our CA finalist, has taken on the crucial role of preparing the budget and, together with Huzaifa, will manage the on-the-ground logistics and food arrangements for our visit this week.
3. Momena and Mudasir are our visual storytellers; they will be capturing videos and pictures during our Acts of Kindness events and then sharing these moments on our project’s Instagram page to spread awareness and encourage others to join in.
4. Lastly, Me, Iqra, am responsible for documenting our journey through this blog and procuring the necessary materials for the planned activities this week.

Challenges:

1. Member Availability: Difficult due to student/work schedules.
2. Donations: Securing enough funding for the activities.

Plan to Overcome:

1. Member availability : Primarily planning activities on weekend when most of the members are free.
2. Team Member Absence : Request fellow to volunteer.
3. Donations: Fundraising posters, social media awareness, potential volunteer fees, future bake sales.

Our trajectory is clear: consistent, weekly acts of kindness. We aim to learn, grow, and inspire along the way, fostering a community where small gestures create significant impact. Our first visit to the orphanage is just the beginning, and we’re excited about the small-scale activities planned for the coming weeks, including a hopeful return to the children’s home. We are also committed to building a sustainable future for Acts of Kindness in Lahore through community fundraising and potential participation fees.
