TV Show Review: Running Point Season 2

I didn’t think I was going to like a show about basketball club owners because I thought it was going to be too much basketball and less personal life. So I went into season 1 sceptical and ready to bounce after the first episode, but I didn’t, and that is wholly due to the energy of the main cast: Kate Hudson, Brenda Song, Chet Hanks, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Justin Theroux, and Fabrizio Guido.

By the end of season 1, I had gone from sceptical to expectant, so you can imagine how overjoyed I was at the announcement of a second season and the development of a third season. They have found a way to make sports interesting, and I’m in for as long as they want to keep the ride going.

Season 1 Finale

At the end of season 1, the LA Waves lost, Isla and Jay kissed, and the Gordons embraced Jackie as one of theirs. I have to say it was a nice touch making them lose because otherwise it would have lost its appeal and felt unrealistic.

Season 2

Cam was back to take his position, but was playing coy, and we find out he actually chose Isla to fail. Joke’s on him because she thrived and even made Sandy and Ness prefer her. I knew from the moment I saw Cam that he was up to nothing good, and I was right.

He stole from the company and made Sandy complicit. He took advantage of Jackie and used his urine to pass drug tests, not minding the hurt Jackie got from jumping out the window. And he is a selfish bastard who is more interested in doing cocaine than he is in the family.

The only deviation was the Irish jig they performed for Isla on her rehearsal dinner night. It was wholesome watching them do that for her despite everything going on.

The Cancelled Wedding

Might just be me, but I knew she and Lev would call it off once more because it just was not there. What I didn’t expect was Jay being a backstabbing human who would side with Cam and Al to cater to another team that would rival the LA Waves.

Now I cannot wait for her to get along with their tenant, Luke McShay. She deserves a break in her string of romantic bad luck.

Overall

I love how the family bonded more through the jig, basketball, and just their overall conversations. Ness was finally given room to step up, and though he “Nessed” things up, he rectified the situation and made it right.

Sandy’s love life is a joke, but a very entertaining one that leaves me very intrigued as to his future. Being broken up with twice in such a short space cannot be good for anyone, but I guess he’ll be fine, as long as Aruna does not rat him out for the fraud.

Ness will obviously keep “nessing” things up, but at least he is a reformed Isla supporter who, despite shaky grounds, still stood by her.

Isla will have a lot to deal with now that Cam has bought a rival basketball team. With her love life in the balance, her efforts as president under pressure, and her brother out to get her, she will need to step up in ways she never thought she could.

I enjoyed this season. There was wholesomeness, jokes, but also seriousness, especially around conversations about asking your friend-turned-boss to pay you what you are owed. But Ali’s transfer to Canada showed that not all promotions come with a big bow.

This season was enticing and, at a point, felt too short. The basketball conversations were also surprisingly interesting to watch, and I cannot wait for the next season.

Summary

A fun, chaotic, and surprisingly heartfelt second season that balances basketball drama with messy family dynamics, betrayals, romance, and plenty of “Nessing” things up. Kate Hudson and the cast keep the energy high as Isla faces new challenges, Cam proves he’s even worse than expected, and the Gordon family somehow grows closer through all the madness. Running Point continues to make sports entertaining even for people who are not basketball fans, and Season 2 leaves enough drama on the table to make the wait for Season 3 frustrating.
