As an Iranian artist, I carry with me a deep connection to a culture that stretches back thousands of years. Persian civilization, one of the oldest in the world is filled with poetry, philosophy, architecture, textiles, and human values that shaped not just our own region but influenced other parts of the world. In today’s fast-paced and globalized society, it is more important than ever for people of all nations to reconnect with their cultural roots, to remember who they were, what they stood for, and what values once defined their identity.
In my work as a textile artist, I strive to revive and reinterpret traditional Persian patterns , not as a nostalgic gesture, but as an act of resistance and remembrance. Each floral motif, each geometric curve, is a living fragment of a value system that once celebrated harmony, symbolism, dignity, and beauty.
In ancient Persia, women held prominent roles in society. We had queens who ruled empires, scholars who taught others, and artisans who shaped aesthetics. The Achaemenid Empire, known for its architectural masterpiece Takht-e Jamshid (Persepolis), employed skilled workers who were paid fairly, including women, a radical contrast to the idea that power must always be maintained through control or oppression. That part of our history is not myth, it is recorded in stone reliefs and ancient texts.
True Persian culture respected women long before the Western world even formed the concept of feminism. Persian queens, priestesses, poets, and mothers were not hidden; they were celebrated.
That is why, to me, reviving traditional patterns is not just a matter of design, it is a subtle but powerful form of cultural continuity. Through art, textiles, music, and literature, we can reconnect with the values we once embodied. We can remember that beauty was sacred, that identity was shared, and that to create something by hand was to embed your soul in it.
I draw my designs by hand, following the original rules and spiritual structures of Persian art, but I reimagine them with modern colors and compositions. My work is not a copy of the past, it is a conversation with it. It is a way to ensure that new generations, no matter where they live, Tehran, Amsterdam, or elsewhere, can feel proud of who they are and where they come from.
Culture does not survive through monuments alone. It survives through people who live it, wear it, sing it, and tell its stories.
As artists, we are not separate from that mission. We are its messengers.
We are the thread. We are the pattern. We are the memory.
And through our work, we remember, and help others remember too.
