Late Night Thoughts: XYZ Has It Worse!

Some people focus on the misery in others' lives to make the same chaos in theirs feel more digestable... To say, "Well, it’s happening to xyz," or "Xyz has it worse, way worse." The comparison, interestingly, can have a numbing effect – almost too good – blinding them to the gravity of their own situation, binding them to it.

Imagine sitting untreated with a medical concern because xyz has it too.

But we do this. We stick to jobs that drain us under the assumption/knowledge that there are plenty others just as miserable with theirs. We stay in romantic/platonic relationships even when they test our bottom-line because Sam’s partner/pal treats him worse. If this isn’t one of the silliest things we do, what is?
