Ready or Not?

Life doesn’t wait for your answer, it still goes

This poem was inspired by the song “Little League” by Conan Gray

Now everything has gotten real, real fast. Life asked ready or not and said go before I could ask. Am I ready, or am I going to crash? Was the driver’s seat meant for me? Because I remember just yesterday, we were passenger princesses.

Do you remember the days where our greatest fear was closing our eyes in groundies? When our hopes and dreams could reach heaven and higher? When we could spend our weekends baking brownies?

Now we walk day and night with no light in our eyes, with energy no longer infinite. A day filled with many lows but not a lot of highs, I know we grew up way too quickly. Now nostalgia smells so sweet, so sickly.

Can we get back to how it was? When we were on top of the world, an unstoppable force full of joy and glee, oblivious to the abyss that awaited. Freedom was all we knew, all that mattered to me.

But’s too late for that now, you take what the world gives you, which isn’t much but hey, we make it work. We can’t keep yearning for a fountain youth any longer, so the question is..
