Thundercat & Remi Wolf Join Forces for ‘Children of the Baked Potato’

Collaborations come in various shapes, sizes, circumstances and approaches. Sometimes they occur between two wildly different artists in order to forge new artistic ground, and other times its with like-minded individuals creating something wicked cool. Psychedelic funk and R&B artist Thundercat and soul-pop singer-songwriter Remi Wolf recently pulled off an example of the latter. It’s a single titled “Children of the Baked Potato”, and it officially came out via Flying Lotus’ record label at Brainfeeder on September 15. The track takes its name from a legendary club located in Los Angeles while the accompanying music video features both Thundercat and Wolf enjoying each other’s company during some photo shoots.

With Greg Kurstin on as the producer, the song exhibits a fast pace that’s accentuated by both the drums and bass. Wolf’s backing vocals have a unique effect going on with them as well while adding a cool dimension.

“She’s a child of the Baked Potato like me,” Thundercat says about Wolf via a press release. “She knew exactly what the song needed, and it was wild to watch her make it happen. The more I listen to the song, it’s clear there was no one better I could have picked.”

Along with the collaborative tune, Thundercat released the track “I Wish I Didn’t Waste Your Time”, which is return to his trademark sound. He also has a few shows coming up, including October 25 at the Brooklyn Paramount in New York City, October 28 at The Anthem in Washington, D.C., October 30 at Roadrunner in Boston and November 11 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver among others.
