A s the sixth month of the year, June represents a middle point for people to reflect on their lives, goals and commitments. It is without the harsh temperatures that mark other months; it has fewer holidays than the months that surround it; and generally provides time to consider how the year has progressed thus far.

In particular, doing things for the benefit of oneself and their community is the central purpose of many of our New Year’s goals. Have we contributed to those in need? Are we serving the less fortunate or being a good neighbor? How do we act to insure a brighter future for ourselves, our loved ones, and those we have not yet had the pleasure to meet?

This month, we asked our writers to consider what service might look like in their lives. How do their principles guide them? And what might we still need to do?

As always, our writers gave some insightful glimpses into their own lives. While we cannot showcase every writer, we appreciate every submission and story shared.

In honor of that, we would like to take this opportunity to celebrate some of the stories that captivated our hearts and minds. Without further ado, here are a few of our favorites from the month of June, hand-picked by your friendly editors at Modern Women.

Brenda Covarrubias’ Top Pick for June is… The Box Full of “This Might Be Useful Someday,” by Omolola Idris.

A humorous look at our daily lives, Omolola discusses the way people have a tendency to collect items for future use. Where some might see clutter, others see a future where they are better prepared for whatever life throws their way.

Bella Smith ⭐'s Top Pick for June is… "*Why do some people choose toxic partners?*" by Ashwini SriiKrishna.

It offers a vital and comforting perspective shift for anyone who has ever blamed themselves for attracting a toxic partner. The explanation of mirroring and the misuse of “understanding” in relationships provides readers with actionable clarity to spot manipulative behavior early on. It is a necessary, validating read that empowers kind-hearted individuals to protect their boundaries and walk away from unhealthy dynamics.

First loves, the commercialisation of Pride and coming into your own… a powerful and important piece that so many of our readers will connect with on multiple levels.
