China — Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA)

The China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) is one of the most important Free Trade Agreements [FTA’s] that Australia has, considering that China is Australia’s largest trading partner for both exports and imports.

The FTA contains many different elements that have enabled businesses in both China and Australia to benefit from increased economic cooperation. The most important benefit is that the FTA allows Australian importers to enjoy reduced tariffs for goods imported from China.

Australian importers often compare different countries when seeking to have their goods produced; if the country that is selected 1) has a zero import tariff and 2) the quality of the finished product is of high standard and 3) if the supply is consistent, then it would make sense to choose one country over another country when having goods manufactured.
