Shh! Quiet! Midjourney Testing New Features Now!

Midjourney Developers are Listening and Working Hard to Deliver What Users Want

Part of my Weekly Midjourney learning is following Midjourney Experts on Social Media platforms like Facebook and X. Yesterday as I was reading the X feed of Micheal Rabone (**https://x.com/michaelrabone) I saw his post “Individual image upscale is back in 8.1. Thanks Midjourney for listening!” ([link to post](https://x.com/michaelrabone/status/2065826540634443878)). And Thank You Michael** for sharing this information.

Immediately I went to **Midjourney’s main site to see what he was talking about and found the Upscale option** in the lightbox next to a newly created image.

Caution and Note: Since Midjourney has not officially announced this addition it may be something that they are just testing and gathering data about. It may disappear unexpectedly if they decide to yank it back. Or it may become a topic for the next Midjourney Office Hours. Keep your eyes on what Midjourney is doing!

Here are my notes about the new Upscaler and my other discoveries:

Here is an image that I created today. I really liked the style and colors of it so I thought it would be a good example to use for testing. In case you like the style too — Here is the prompt I used. Try the profile code!

I clicked the image to reveal the lightbox sidebar menu. There is now an upscale command with two options, subtle and creative.

Quick note: Notice that there are also Pan and Zoom features available.

I tested both upscale options and here is a screen capture of them. In case you would like to see them full size (or copy or download them) I have provided links to the original images.

I examined both of these upscales and I think they looked great. The quality is top notch. The size of each upscale was 2688 x 1792 pixels.

I decided to test the Pan and Zoom Features next and I created a new image using the same prompt and profile code as above.

Here is my new sample image.

I clicked the arrows next to Pan in the lightbox to pan the image up, down, left, and right to create the images below. The size of the up and down pan images are 1008 x 1184 pixels. The size of the left and right pan images are 1536 x 768 pixels.

The zoom feature in the lightbox has 2 options: zoom 1.5x and zoom 2x. I created one of each kind of zoom.

Here is the same original image zoomed out 1.5 times (the size is 1344 x 896 pixels).

Here is the image zoomed out 2 times (the size is the same 1344 x 896 — but the size of the subject to the frame of the image shows the increased zoom value). Compare it to the image above.

I think these are features that users have been waiting to see return to v8. I think they worked well and I say “Keep on improving things Midjourney! I appreciate your work!”.

I also checked **the “alpha” website* to see if there were any announcements about these “quite feature adds” on that site. (Your Midjourney login will work on the alpha site if you are challenged to login.)*

I notice right away in the space above the left navigation bar that the site was marked as “v8.1 Alpha” in red text. And as I went to the Create page I also notice how the create options were tucked neatly into a sidebar (lightbox) menu.

Because I wanted to share this information quickly with other Midjourney Enthusiasts I didn’t explore the alpha site more thoroughly but I imagine that other subtle changes may appear on the 8.1 alpha test ground.
