On The Other Side

Misery wants a bunk bed

I couldn’t see you in the blurring out of the reckless abandoned, speeding past the signs and what we knew was right, passing days, break another mirror, you aren’t as perfect as I remembered. Window rolled up for rain. The Footing flip flops, inverting the cross walk of the mind, God’s child crosses over the glacial river, bouncing off the ceiling, his sweet brain freezes.

But clouds part above the red sea. You were jagged, and hard to fit, the shards prod, icicles of the mind, barely familiar, a numb snow wandering puzzling grasp, baby hand pushing down the safety, flickering a candle in the overcast days, gun powder prints in the glassy haze, the white ghosts of the snuffed and the smoking gun, blood shot, tears bathe you, and cover eyes and the peeping window on your open casket soul

I thought it was just black on your side

My doll grown and done up out of nothing, like a brush and some gloss, and a bowl of sugar and maggots grown out of airs breath. Houdini’s locked up under the water, with no key, not knowing what was in the box, only bubbles and mermaid songs escape.

Bewitched at first sighting, my star aligned before astronomy developed, forbidden words formed in the picture book, the poem was starry night

From the lighthouse looking through the night vision binoculars, to a perfect sunrise, blinding the day dream

But the waves are brought back in, because the moon never left the sky, in the shade of the blue, he’s just on the outside looking in

You told me you were lost too

I turned my head, and watched the hair crawl up my spine

I thought I was the only crazy one

It’s nice to know there’s someone out of my mind

You told me you were finally on your way

I was always on my own

My small windows setting sun relief, dark shadows visiting, dressed in the white light, panic paddles on death’s row, for the long rest, and from a mercy dream, losing track of the numbers, and who might’ve been called, trying to break out of the skin, just tallying on the cell walls

Revisiting hours, I had you bring the cake and blow out my candles for me. I was staring on the other side of the glass, waiting for your return call

Red stains lips, words held hostage, silently exchanged

Looking over my shoulders, I know this halo’s over my head

The Sandman reads the last rites, invoking the silence. Throws the gavel behind the throne of thunder, sparing the rod, and freeing the hours to go. Grains of rose stain the glasses of time

This is only the start of the rest your life

Every 100 years, at lights out, a scream murmurs from a stone heart
