Exploring Mekong Delta with GetYourGuide

One of the most unforgettable experiences from my trip to Vietnam was exploring the Mekong Delta in the southern region. This guided tour with *GetYourGuide *in Ho Chi Minh City offered an incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the rich local culture of the Mekong Delta, a lush region that produces much of Vietnam’s rice and fish.

I had booked this amazing full-day guided tour through the *GetYourGuide* app. The whole day was packed with activities, and the duration was about 8 to 9 hours.

They picked us up from a central location in District 1 with an air-conditioned bus. The guide spoke English and threw in a mini history lesson during the ride, which was fascinating and set the tone for the day.

First Stop-Vinh Trang Pagoda This place was stunning! The architecture was unlike anything I’d ever seen, a blend of Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Chinese influences. Walking around, I couldn’t help but admire the intricate details and the peaceful vibe. It was a perfect way to start the day.

Cruising the Mekong River Next, we boarded a boat for a cruise along the Mekong River. Let me tell you, the scenery was straight out of a postcard. Floating houses dotted the river, with locals farming fish right under their homes. The tropical waterways, lined with mangroves and swaying palm trees, were mesmerizing.

We passed by Tortoise Islet and then the Dragon, Phoenix, and Unicorn Islets, such whimsical names! On Unicorn Islet, we hopped onto a local tuk-tuk, weaving through serene fruit orchards and rustic villages. Watching the locals go about their day was such a humbling experience.

Exploring on Foot After that, we wandered through a village on foot. Here, I got to taste tropical fruits and sip on honey tea while listening to Đàn Ca Tài Tử, traditional Vietnamese music performed live by the villagers. It was so soulful and soothing.

Then came the sampan ride through the coconut tree-lined canals. Picture this, a small, hand-rowed boat gliding through a peaceful creek with lush, overhanging greenery all around. It felt like time had slowed down, and I could truly appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of the place.

Rural Lunch and Relaxation For lunch, we got to experience rural life up close. The food was incredible -creamy coconut rice, coconut-braised shrimp, and củ hủ dừa, a light and refreshing salad made with coconut hearts. Vegan options were available, too; I survived. After eating, there was time to relax on a hammock or bike around the village. I opted for a quick nap on the hammock — pure bliss!

Ben Tre Province & Coconut Delights Our final major stop was in Ben Tre Province, famously known as the land of coconuts. Here, we toured a coconut farm and saw how coconut candies, rice paper, and other products are made. It was fascinating to watch the process and taste the candies, so fresh and delicious!

Wrapping Up the Day As the sun began to set, we headed back to Ho Chi Minh City. The whole ride back, I was replaying the day’s adventures in my mind,-the serene canals and the lively music. We got back to the hotel around 7 in the evening.

What a day 💛

It’s a trip, I would recommend to anyone visiting Vietnam. The culture, the people, the sights, it was all so enriching!
