Ubiquiti Updates — OS vs. Applications

Different firmware updates for different system components

I must have misunderstood the answer to a question I asked someone earlier. I asked if the network software on the Ubiquiti UDM SE (and PRO) was updated when you update the OS software. My understanding was that yes, the two would be updated together. But that is not always the case.

In fact there are two separate components that are not always updated in sync. Sometimes the network application firmware can be updated before the OS software. I’m not sure if it is ever the other way around.

What that means is that if you are manually updating the firmware as described in this post, then you may need to update them independently to get the latest versions of both.

The other thing is, if you are trying to downgrade software as I mentioned in this post, you might not get the results you expect. In my case, I’m not sure if all the software downloaded as expected. I’m also not sure when I updated the OS again if the old network application was updated as I thought it should have been.

I’m not going to go back and retest all that. Just make sure that you have the latest version not only of the OS software but also the network application software on a UDM PRO or UDM SE if that’s what you are running.
