Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone: A Student’s Journey at Christ University

Every journey of personal growth begins with a small, often nerve-wracking, step. For one student at Christ Deemed to be University, the leap from being a nervous narrator to performing poetry on stage was a transformative one, made possible by the opportunities, guidance, and encouragement provided by his university.

It all began with his first Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA), a hallmark of Christ University’s approach to holistic education. This particular assessment, part of a module called Talentancy, tasked him with narrating a play. Standing in front of his peers, script in hand, he felt his hands tremble with nerves. His voice wavered, and doubt crept in — could he really do this? The pressure to perform well, combined with the unfamiliarity of the task, left him feeling vulnerable. But in that moment of uncertainty, he took a step outside his comfort zone. And while it wasn’t perfect, it was his first step in a journey that would shape him in unexpected ways.

Two months later, this same student found himself in a very different position. For his next CIA, he wasn’t just narrating a play but performing his very first poetry on stage. The transformation wasn’t magic, but rather the result of consistent effort and the influence of multiple e

vents that had pushed him further. He had been a part of debates, class presentations, and extracurricular activities — each event nudging him further out of his shell, helping him discover parts of himself he hadn’t known before.

A significant factor in this journey was Christ University’s Multi-Disciplinary Course (MDC), a unique feature designed to broaden students’ skills beyond their core disciplines. For his MDC, he had chosen public speaking — a decision that would prove to be pivotal. The course introduced him to techniques, strategies, and the mental tools required to speak confidently in public. With every class, he grew more comfortable with expressing himself in front of an audience, learning not just the technical aspects of speaking, but also the emotional and mental resilience it requires.

Christ University’s holistic approach and hands-on experiences were crucial in this transformation. The faculty, ever supportive, encouraged him at every step, pushing him to take risks while offering guidance. The various events held on campus provided real-world platforms where students like him could experiment, fail, learn, and ultimately grow.
