5 EASY STEPS TO DEAL WITH PROCRASTINATION
Ladies and gentlemen, sit down and grab a coffee because today we’re talking about the dreaded P-word. Procrastination is probably any student or employee’s worst nightmare. You now what you have to do; but for some unknown reason you just cannot seem to do it.
So how can one defeat procrastination? Is there any way how you can conquer the perils of procrastination. Well, luckily for you, here are 5 steps you need to take to not only avoid but beat procrastination.
Accept your fears
The top factor that contributes to procrastination is fear. This can be of anything; fear of failure, success and others. Hence, if you are afraid of success or that you are not good enough, you are effectively limiting yourself from working at your full potential which will therefore influence your ability to not only finish your tasks but execute them in a timely and utterly professional manner. Facing your fears is the first to step to overcome this problem.
Make a list of your objectives
The next step is to create a to-do list with all the things that you need to accomplish. Do not over do it as you might end up feeling intimidated by a long list which will defeat the whole purpose.. Keep it concise and easily-manageable. You might also want to jot down deadline dates next to each task so you can plan enough time for each task accordingly. Make sure, however, that you not only create the to-do list, but also to execute it. There’s no point in creating a plan if it is not accomplished properly.
Break down big projects into smaller, manageable parts
Big projects can sometimes feel daunting and too large to deal with. So why not break them down into smaller, manageable tasks. Therefore, you can easily tick off the smaller parts which gives you a better sense of satisfaction when you know that with each task you tick off, you’re getting closer to the end goal.
Remove all distractions
Sometimes procrastination can come from all the “noise” there is around the room. You might end up taking longer to finish a task if you’re constantly checking Facebook or the TV is on. Maybe put your phone on silent mode or try to set a time during the day in which you remove yourself from all distractions.
Reward yourself
It is very important to reward yourself once you have completed a task or part of that task. Your rewards can be whatever you want them to be as long as its something you value.
Although it’s not the easiest thing to avoid, procrastination can be dealt with if you implement these strategies in order to become ever more efficient at work.
