It’s finally happening! Yes, Disney Afternoon Collection is coming to both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 late next month! And with two new games even, adding Goof Troop and the SNES version of Bonkers to the collection! And yet, after all this time, if you’re going to bother to add anything at all, this doesn’t feel like nearly enough…

I wrote only a couple of weeks ago that we needed a second Disney Afternoon Collection. But if this new version is having games added, maybe what we really just need is a definitive edition that has all the versions of all the games. Like it still feels incomplete, and of there isn’t going to be a second collection, this collection should just be getting all the games.

This admittedly might’ve previously been an issue because the original release of the Disney Afternoon Collection was by Capcom and only had Capcom games. But even then, it didn’t have every version of the Capcom Disney games, missing excellent Game Boy versions of a couple of the titles.

This release is being published by Atari which implies some sort of deal was reached to between Capcom and Atari to publish this version, but especially as Atari has positioned themselves as a strongly retro company focused on preserving and rereleasing older games on newer platforms, it seems obvious that they should try to get every version of every game they can and extras to go with it. This update doesn’t include other versions of Bonkers (Genesis and Game Gear), any other versions of Darkwing Duck (Game Boy and TG-16), Gargoyles, etc. And again, if there isn’t going to be a second collection, it really should. Yes some of those games were published and developed by companies other than Capcom, but with Atari as a go-between, it should certainly be a possibility to include them. We’ve already seen this with the Disney Classics Collection, it has multiple games from different publishers and developers so that’s not really an excuse.

Maybe this is just the start and even more games will be added to the Disney Afternoon Collection in the near future as DLC. If not, I’d really rather just have had the collection as it was and save Bonkers and Goof Troop for another collection honestly…
That’s it for today, but I should have another post up next week so see ya real soon!
