Quant Pokemon TCG — Top Picks for Week of June 15 2026

Every week I run the full English TCG universe (~28,000 priced singles) through a leakage-safe, point-in-time pipeline and ask one narrow question: where is the grading-bet geometry actually favorable right now? Not “what’s mooning on YouTube.” The arithmetic.
A few ground rules before the names, because they’re the whole point.
The market is hot. That’s a warning, not a green light.
This week’s regime reads BROAD_RALLY. Median 90-day momentum across the liquid universe is +14.7%, 82% of cards are up over 90 days, and 68% are sitting near their trailing all-time high. When everything is green, any single card’s “asymmetric upside” is partly just beta. So read every pick below as “interesting relative to a market that’s already run,” not “free money.”
The two questions almost nobody asks
For any card with a graded comp, there are two completely different bets. Conflating them is how people lose money.
Path A: grade it yourself. Buy the raw card, pay the ~$20 grading fee plus shipping, and hope it comes back a PSA 10. Your all-in cost is the ticket. Your payout ladder is the PSA 10 price (net of fees) on the upside, the PSA 9 price on the downside.
Path B: just buy the PSA 10. Skip the lottery. Pay up for certainty.
My screen labels every card with the path the geometry favors:
- GRADE_EDGE: the raw to 10 spread is wide and a PSA 9 alone nearly covers your ticket. Translation: even if you “miss” and get a 9, you’re roughly whole. A 10 multiplies. The variance is paid for.
- BUY_10_INSTEAD: the finished PSA 10 sells for barely more than your all-in self-grade cost. Why gamble on condition to save $20? Buy the slab.
This week, 577 cards cleared price discipline and carried a usable PSA 10 comp. 60 graded out as GRADE_EDGE, 70 as BUY_10_INSTEAD, and the rest were ambiguous or too illiquid to act on.
What the screen likes that the internet hasn’t pumped yet
The most useful names aren’t the ones already trending. By the time a card hits a caller’s video, the move has usually already happened (more on that below). So here are the GRADE_EDGE candidates with strong geometry, real PSA 10 liquidity, and no recent influencer flag:
- Metagross ex (Hidden Legends). ~$152 raw, PSA 10 ~$2,700, a healthy ~9 documented PSA 10 sales/yr. Net upside ~12x. Even a PSA 9 nets ~2x the ticket.

- Kyogre ex (Hidden Legends). ~$224 raw, PSA 10 ~$3,900, ~9 sales/yr. Same family, same favorable floor.

- Moltres ex (FireRed & LeafGreen). ~$181 raw, PSA 10 ~$4,200, ~6 sales/yr.

- Light Dragonite (Neo Destiny). ~$350 raw, PSA 10 ~$3,640, and the most liquid of the group at ~13 sales/yr.

The 2004-era ex Secret/Ultra Rares keep showing up: thin populations, real demand, and PSA 9s that already cover the bet. The trade-off is honest. These are old cardboard, and raw vintage can grade below a 9, which no ladder models.
And the other side of the coin: Blaziken ex (Journey Together) at ~$2 raw is a textbook BUY_10_INSTEAD. The graded 10 is only ~$47, less than $20 over your all-in grading cost. Don’t gamble. Buy the slab.
Two contrarian things the data keeps saying
I run event studies on this stuff, and two findings cut against the usual advice.
- Chasing a fresh set release is a headwind. Species exposed to a new set release underperform matched controls by ~6.8% over the next 90 days, a “sell the news” / supply-flood fade. The hype is the exit, not the entry.
- By the time a caller covers a card, it’s mostly moved. Cards a Tier-1 channel just featured show ~+8% drift before the upload. Recent coverage means you may be the exit liquidity, not early. The unhyped names above are the point.
The honest part
This is a research screen, not a recommendation, and definitely not financial advice. The forward, out-of-sample test of these picks doesn’t even mature until ~September 2026, so I genuinely don’t yet know if the edge is real, and I’d rather tell you that than sell certainty. The published gem rates are population statistics, not your specific copy’s odds. The real risk on Path A is condition, which no model can see from a price feed. Inspect the photos. Model the downside as a 9. If a 9 doesn’t cover your cost, the card’s condition is the bet.
See you next week.
