Quick and Simple Steps to Paint Wooden Furniture
Are you feeling inspired? **Painting furniture **can be an enjoyable way to give old chairs, tables, or cabinets a completely new look. It’s easy, fast, and feels like you’ve given your whole room a makeover.
What you will need: ● Dulux Paint for Furniture ● Paint brush ● Masking tape ● Paint tray ● Sandpaper or sanding block ● Roller ● Sponge ● Vacuum cleaner ● Cloth ● Degreaser ● Pom-pom paint stirrer ● Screwdriver
Step 1: Getting the furniture ready
1. Safeguard the work area: Place a sheet or old cloth to absorb any spills. 2. Remove or cover the hardware: Unscrew the hardware (the handles, knobs, or hinges), or cover them with masking tape. 3. Sand the surface: If your furniture is painted, remove all the loose paint, and lightly sand it. Use a sanding block if the area is flat. 4. Clean off the dust: Just vacuum or wipe away the dust, then clean it with a degreaser. Let it dry properly.
Step 2: Begin Painting
● No need to prime: No need to prime with **Dulux Simply Refresh**. Two coats will do. ● Stir the paint, mix thoroughly and pour the paint into the tray. ● For the small details, start using a brush to paint small details in corners, curves, and carved areas. For the larger areas, switch to a roller for smooth, flat areas. ● Once the first coat is applied, allow the paint to dry. Check the paint tin for drying time. You can even spread this project out over a few days if needed. ● If you will be working on the project over a few days, wrap your brush and roller in a plastic bag to keep them from drying out. ● Repeat process to apply the second coat and wait for the furniture to dry completely. Don’t move or clean it for approximately 10 days if not longer. This allows the paint to sit in the wood grain.
Step 3: Time to Clean Up
● After the extra paint from your brush, roller, and tray. ● Since Simply Refresh is a water-based paint, you can wash everything clean with water, there is no need for white spirit. ● Make sure to store the paint correctly, closing the tin tightly & keeping it in a dry place that doesn’t get cold enough to freeze.
Tip: When it comes to furniture painting, this a great weekend project. Whether you are updating a single chair or an entire dining set, painting furniture is an easy way to give your home style a fresh look.
