Peashooter’s big day part 2
Peashooter stood firm, his confidence growing by the second. He clenched his leafy fists and narrowed his eyes. “I’ll get them!” he declared, his voice brimming with determination.
Crazy Dave nodded approvingly. “That’s the spirit, Peashooter!” He whipped out a taco from seemingly nowhere, holding it up as if it were a sacred artifact. “But remember, you’ll need all the help you can get. Take this taco — it’s not just any taco. It’s magic. A plant food taco!” He shoved it into Peashooter’s leafy hands, his grin widening. “Eat it when the time is right. Trust me.”
Before Peashooter could ask what on earth a plant food taco was, a low, menacing groan drifted through the air. The sound sent a shiver down Peashooter’s stem. It was followed by the rhythmic thud of heavy footsteps, growing louder and louder.
And then he saw them.
A horde of zombies shuffled into view at the edge of the lawn. Their ragged clothes flapped in the breeze, and their glowing eyes locked onto the lush green grass like it was a feast waiting to be devoured. At the front of the pack was a particularly burly zombie wearing a captain’s hat and carrying a rusted anchor. He stomped forward, his decayed face twisted in a sinister grin.
“THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING!” the zombie bellowed, his gravelly voice echoing across the lawn. Peashooter quickly realized this must be their leader.
Crazy Dave gasped. “It’s Tugboat! That guy’s trouble. Watch out, Peashooter!” He stepped back, giving Peashooter room to take the lead.
Tugboat raised his anchor high, pointing it dramatically toward the lawn. “CHARGE!” he roared, and the zombie horde surged forward, arms outstretched.
Peashooter didn’t hesitate. His instincts kicked in, and with a sharp inhale, he fired his first pea. The glowing green projectile shot through the air, striking one of the zombies square in the chest. It stumbled backward and fell, dissolving into a puff of smoke.
Peashooter grinned. “I’ve got this!” he shouted, firing pea after pea. The zombies kept coming, but he was faster. His shots found their marks, one by one, until the lawn was littered with defeated foes.
But then Tugboat stepped forward, his heavy boots sinking into the soil. “Enough!” he growled. The remaining zombies paused, looking to their leader for guidance. Tugboat glared at Peashooter, gripping his anchor tightly. “You think you can stop us? I’ll crush you myself!”
Peashooter’s confidence wavered. Tugboat was much bigger than the others, and his anchor looked like it could flatten a plant in one swing. He needed something more — something stronger.
“NOW’S THE TIME, PEASHOOTER!” Crazy Dave shouted from behind him. “USE THE TACO!”
Peashooter glanced down at the plant food taco in his hands. It glowed faintly, pulsing with energy. Without a second thought, he stuffed it into his mouth. The moment he swallowed, a surge of power coursed through him, lighting up his stem and leaves with a brilliant green glow.
“I feel… incredible!” Peashooter exclaimed. His body expanded slightly, his leaves bristling with energy. He fired a single pea, but this one was different — it was massive, glowing, and left a trail of light in its wake. The pea hit the ground in front of Tugboat and exploded, sending the zombie leader flying backward.
Tugboat groaned as he hit the dirt. He struggled to his feet, but his confidence was shaken. “Fall back!” he shouted to the other zombies. “Retreat! Retreat!” The horde turned and fled, disappearing over the horizon.
Peashooter let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding. The lawn was safe… for now.
Crazy Dave ran over, laughing and clapping his hands. “You did it, Peashooter! I knew you had it in you!” He glanced at the ground where Tugboat had fallen and noticed something unusual. “Hey, what’s this?”
Lying in the dirt was a small, glowing seed. Dave picked it up, turning it over in his hands. “Hmm… this is interesting,” he muttered. “Looks like the zombies dropped it when they ran off. Wonder what it does?”
Peashooter tilted his head curiously. “What do you think it’s for?”
Dave grinned. “Only one way to find out! Let’s plant it and see what happens. But first, let’s celebrate your big win! You were amazing out there, Peashooter.”
Peashooter smiled, the adrenaline of the battle finally subsiding. He didn’t know what challenges lay ahead, but he felt ready for whatever came next. Today, he had proven to himself — and to the zombies — that Zomburbia’s last lawn was in good hands.
