I Know I Don’t, But I Do
I Know I Don’t, But I Do
There are songs you hear years ago and don’t really get. Then life happens, and one day someone sends you a link, you play it again and it feels like it was written for you.
That’s how “Don’t” by Sabrina Claudio feels to me.
It’s not a new release, but it sums up exactly where I am. Wanting something, knowing it’s not good for you, and still feeling the pull. Telling someone not to cross a line, not because you don’t want them to, but because you know how easily you’ll give in if they do.
“I know I don’t, but I do” is such a simple line, but it carries so much weight.
I’ve realized that wanting someone/something doesn’t mean I should be with/have them. Missing someone doesn’t mean they still have a place in my life. And just because something feels familiar doesn’t mean it’s safe.
Sometimes saying “don’t” isn’t rejection. It’s self-control. It’s choosing yourself even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when it hurts.
The song doesn’t try to wrap things up nicely. It just tells the truth. You can still want something and decide not to go back to it.
And right now, maybe that’s where I am or maybe time will tell
