Dolores And The Cranberries: Bows And Only Bows

The Cranberries has always been my favorite band and Dolores O’Riordan-the best singer and lyricist I’ve known.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve listened to The Cranberries’ 1999 Paris concert — and every time, I find myself wishing I had been there.

For starters, The Cranberries is an Irish band and Dolores it’s lead singer. The members fell for her voice and lyrics the first time she was auditioned; she had written the lyrics, turning it into a song of regret based on an experience with a 17-year-old soldier she once fell in love with, which later became LINGER.

It wasn’t easy for Dolores growing up- she was sexually abused as a child which further led to struggles with depression and bipolar disorder, and alcohol abuse. She also experienced periods of anxiety and anorexia.

Everytime I listen to Dolores- its bare euphoria. I can feel something running inside me whenever Dolores hits a note. Every line of the song has a deep meaning and invokes feelings that I never knew existed in me. Dolores is an inspiration- she is the kind of person I will always look upto and the kind of person the world deserves.

She drowned to death in a bathtub due to alcohol intoxication in 2018. It was hard to see her go like that but she has left behind a legacy that will remain forever.

Though she wasn’t the popstar everyone knew of but she was the voice that quietly echoed through a generation grappling with pain and personal loss. SHE WAS GREAT (:
