The Atlas Six Series- A story that questions morals

The Atlas Six is an enthralling tale about six initiates –Elizabeth Rhodes, Nico De Varona, Reina Mori, Callum Nova, Tristan Caine and Parisa Kamali.

The six initiates find themselves receiving a mysterious invitation to the Alexandrian Society from a man called Atlas Blakely, who is known as the caretaker of the society.

In a world of witches and medians, they were the six greatest, given a chance to harness their true potential by accessing unparalleled amounts of knowledge. The choice to join was theirs alone, but nobody refused, nobody ever has.

Six are invited, but only five get to stay at the end of the year and be initiated as a proper member. It was up to them to decide who stays and who doesn’t.

The plot of the story isn’t some sort of legacy or adventure. It’s the relationship each character develops with the others. I really like that part of it; it makes the story more real, more humane.

” Knowledge is carnage. The more you have it, the less you feel you know.”

This was one of the quotes that really clicked with me. The story was majorly moving along these lines, and it showed how in the search for knowledge, we often forget what really matters.

The story is quite complex; on various occasions, I had to take breaks to absorb the content and fully understand what was happening.

The first book was meant to engage us; the last played with our emotions. The ending wasn’t happy; things happened, and life continued on without pause, but it had to be this way; there was no other option, no other possibility. By the end of the series, the characters are almost completely changed.

The fun and outgoing character ends up broken and completely gone astray from her morals.

The tough character who felt no emotions now just drowns in them.

The one who thought love was not an option for him chases it.

The one with a cool head and always ready with a plan finds herself without a path or destination.

But they haven’t actually changed; they just found themselves, their limits and their real aspirations. Priorities change, and pretences are thrown away.

It’s a book that makes you question society, whether what you believe in is right, and whether you actually care if it’s not.

The pairings and relationships each character has changed in each new situation and book. Those who had been close from the start drift apart. Showing just how easily people come and go.

The characters, as well as the readers, expected some sort of meaning at the end of the story; it couldn’t have all been for nought, could it? But we came to realise that the one pulling the string was just a human with his own flaws. At the end, he was just seeking redemption for his actions, and the only way he could think of was by more such actions, causing more problems he could not solve.

Power is something that corrupts all too easily; there is no end to its greed or desire. You keep wanting more and more until you destroy yourself with it, and all that remains is a void. The characters exhibit the same greed for power. Things they wouldn’t have even thought of doing before, they start attempting regardless of the consequences.

They may never meet each other again, but the characters have become a part of each other now. Their shared experiences would haunt them for the rest of their lives like a dark patch that is best left forgotten.

Nobody got what they set out for; all it did was teach them a valuable lesson, though the cost may have been too much.

On the whole, this book made me pause for a moment and think, not many books these days have that kind of a plot. It may not be for everyone, and it is slow at times, especially in the third book. Some may even say that the ending wasn't worth it, but I stuck with it, and it left an impression. It's not perfect, but it's definitely worth a read.
