redesigning a legacy workflow? Start probing.

Now that you have a new a legacy system/ workflow to relook at, where are you starting? The initial steps would be conducting a contextual inquiry, but do you have some any human-centred questions that can support your pursuit?

These questions are a great place to start. Ask them:

  • What kind of errors or delays happen during/ between tasks?
  • What tasks feel repetitive or rule-based ?
  • What kind of recommendations or alerts would make your work easier?
  • If the system could “do one thing automatically” for you, what would it be?
  • What’s confusing or frustrating?

All these questions are definite ice-breakers. Do not complicate it. Now you would ask how can one incorporate AI into this probe?

Well, note taking AI systems will help you transcribe! Ask AI to rephrase the questions to set in your context!

Enjoy the inquiry as much as you enjoy solving problems :)
