Think of Happy Moments Think of the times In the circle of redwoods, imagining fairies;
Seeing the shadow — colored, spotted dog, Peering at you with his blue eyes between the redwoods As if in protection;
At the creek below, Old Mill Creek, finding skeeter bugs skimming across the dark water.
Think of days with Susie in Tiburon, Climbing golden hills, near the old church, stopping beneath the oak tree, Eating peanut butter sandwiches and drinking water from the plaid thermos;
Think of Mother’s smooth voice, soothing you after thunder, Of Dad’s big hands holding mine, so seldom was he home;
Think of playing by the water with friends, Making a fort out of tall bamboo with Annie, pretending we were babies, acting silly;
Think of our visits to Grandma, her orange hair, And Grandpa in his long johns and pants with suspenders, winding the clock as he prepared to retire at 8:30 pm, arising at 03:00 for his work as a plasterer.
Remember the third grade teacher with white hair, She was such a lady, Who said “hurt no living thing,” Who persuaded you to sing.
Think of these things, When feelings hang over you like dark clouds. Remember these things.
