Checkin’ In

As Steve Allen used to say: “How’s your Fern?” I must have been asleep when they started naming snowstorms.

I break my pro sports silence for this, possibly the most amusing headline of the day. From nypost.com: “Ex-Vikings captain says Minn. Dems hate ICE because ‘we’re deporting their voters’.” Photo from Google Images:

And this thought: It’s official — QB Sam Darnold’s success in Seattle makes the Jets the most laughable NFL franchise. Photo from GI:

From NYP: “NJ man ‘sipping coffee’ as $5K robotic snow blower clears his driveway during Winter Storm Fern.” According to the article by Ariel Zilber, “…the machine would recharge to about 80% after roughly 1.25 hours before automatically heading back out to resume work.” This may save some folks from a heart attack. It does have a problem with layers of ice, though.

Love this. From NYP: “LI Dems cross aisle to support ICE funding boost — sparking wrath of party.” Agita.

No one should ever be surprised by selective outrage. Headline from foxnews.com: “‘The View’ hosts defend gun ownership as check to tyranny after years of show criticizing gun rights.” Maybe they’ll get the violence they seem to want. When did antagonizing law enforcement become a good idea? How fascinating that Minneapolis has become the flashpoint in the battle for America.

Kudos to the dedicated staff members who showed up to work at Stop n Shop. Despite the storm, it opened on time at seven AM. The one I think of as “Betty to the Rescue” is always there.

Looks like we have a foot of snow in Sheepshead Bay. The worst aspect will be that it will ice up and stay with us for weeks, as the temperatures are to remain below freezing through the long-range forecast. With that in mind I shoveled out about a ten-foot space at my usual nook, although I expect the Anti-Inflation Book Shop to be on hiatus at least until Sunday. I worked very slowly, as people my age are not supposed to be shoveling in such cold. I resisted the temptation to clear the kitty-corner where I display Russian books. The pile was high and wet. Fortunately, I am still working on a short story, The Mansion, third draft begun today, and I have an idea for another, Shuffle, although I’m not sure it will fly as I believed the others would.
